Job Description Summary:

This position provides legal support to administrators, faculty and staff of The Texas A&M University System.

Responsibilities:

- Negotiates, reviews and prepares energy-related documents, including but not limited to, Oil and Gas Leases, Solar Leases, Wind Leases, Groundwater Leases, Ratifications, Consents, Pooling Agreements, Seismic Survey Permits, Easements, Surface Use Agreements, Division Orders, Releases, Consents, Assignments, Access Permits and Licenses, and associated documents. Schedules and conducts Oil and Gas lease auctions and prepares related paperwork. Coordinates drill site locations and related issues. Oversees royalty and bonus deposits. Coordinates mineral asset distributions from trust and estates.
- Reviews title commitments, title exceptions and surveys. Identifies and resolves title defects.
- Provides legal advice and counsel to System administrators, faculty and staff in various areas, including but not limited to: interpreting federal and state laws and regulations; interpreting System policies, regulations, and rules; developing and drafting policies and procedures; reviewing and analyzing legislative bills; drafting legislation; and developing well researched internal legal memorandum and opinions.
- Participates in Office of General Counsel matters, including practice area assignments, workshops, briefing papers, legal memoranda, special initiatives, etc. Provides representation of and legal advice and counsel to System clients in judicial and internal and external administrative hearings.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- B.A./B.S. plus an earned LLB or JD degree from an accredit law school.
- Five years of relevant legal experience. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Knowledge of oil and gas legal principles, contracts, leases and title documents.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage a broad range of complex legal issues. 

- Availability to travel across state to System locations.

- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Seven or more years of relevant experience in oil and gas transactions.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
- Member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas or will seek a Texas law license through reciprocity within 12 months of hire date.
