Salary:

$4,617.67 - $6,500.00per month commensurate with experience.

Job Description Summary:

This position in the Office of General Counsel provides legal representation and support to administrators, faculty and staff of The Texas A&M University System on various business law and sponsored research matters. 


Responsibilities:
- Draft, negotiate and advise on all types of research related agreements, including sponsored research agreements, research collaboration agreements, clinical trial agreements, research grants, government contracts, consortia agreements,
inter-institutional agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on all types of commercial transactions and agreements for products and services, from both an acquisition and provider perspective.
- Provide general advice and counsel on a wide range of commercial and business matters, including corporate/non-profit matters, choice of entity and formation, corporate governance, business venture, affiliation agreements and memorandum of understanding.
- Draft responses and advise on proposed legislation.
- Draft requests for Texas Attorney General opinions, open records decisions and related amicus briefs.
- Assist the Office of the Texas Attorney General with matters it handles that pertain to A&M System business law or intellectual property matters.
- Provide legal advice and counsel in administrative hearings that are not handled by the Texas Attorney General.
- Participate in Office of General Counsel matters, including practice area assignments, workshops, briefing papers, legal memorandum and opinions, special initiatives, etc.
- Other duties as assigned. 


Education and Experience:
- Bachelors of Law or Juris Doctor degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Four years of related legal experience.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Member of the State Bar of Texas in good standing or will obtain a Texas law license through reciprocity within 12 months of hire date.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

- Knowledge of subject matter in assigned practice area.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to manage a broad range of complex legal issues for multiple clients throughout the state. 

- Travel required.

- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Two years legal experience in commercial contracts, sponsored research agreements or government contracts.
- Two years legal experience representing institutions of higher education or state agencies/government.
- Admission to Federal Courts.
- Corporate/government client knowledge/understanding.

- In-depth knowledge of business/research contracts and intellectual property issues.
