Job Description

Under the direction of the Equipment Operations Coordinator, assists with organizing and maintaining the athletic equipment for Sun Devil Athletics athletic programs. This role is based in Desert Financial Arena. Ensures that goals and objectives are met with strict adherence to NCAA and Conference rules and regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of the department, the University, and the Arizona Board of Regents.

Essential Duties

  • Assists with receiving, inventorying, check-out, collection and maintenance of equipment for assigned sports programs.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of team equipment and initiates requests for replenishment of stock items.
  • Assists in all phases of purchasing athletic equipment and apparel for multiple, assigned sports programs.
  • When necessary coordinates the fitting of uniforms and equipment for multiple, assigned sports programs.
  • Assists in equipment setup for events in various athletic facilities.
  • Assists in equipment packing and preparation for home athletic contests for multiple, assigned sports programs
  • Assists in coordinating laundry services following all practices, games, and workouts for assigned sports programs.
  • Assists in leading student employee staff.
  • As assigned, meets with sales representatives regarding new and existing products, ensuring that the needs of the student athletes, coaches, and other athletic department personnel are met.
  • Develops and maintains positive communication and effective working relationships with coaches, players and other personnel.
  • Follows departmental policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field AND 2 years’ experience in athletic equipment management; OR, six years’ experience in athletic equipment management; OR, an equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been received.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in athletic equipment management within college athletics preferred (3 years)
  • Experience in using an inventory software system
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in determining appropriate fit of athletic clothing, accessories and equipment for various ASU varsity sports excluding Football and Ice Hockey
  • Evidence of a valid driver’s license
  • Evidence ofAEMA certification preferred or willingness to work towards certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Experience in decision-making, conflict resolution and organization
  • Evidence of effective  communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sports equipment and facility needs
  • Demonstrated Knowledge of equipment maintenance and application
  • Demonstrated Knowledge of inventory maintenance
  • Demonstrated Knowledge in working commercial washers and dryers
  • Demonstrated Knowledge of department and university policies and procedures
  • Experience in planning and organizing
  • Experience in coordinating and prioritizing work and activities of self and others
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Experience in stimulating changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 30 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Work activities include exposure to a variety of external climates.
  • Travels with teams as approved by Supervisor.
  • Schedule varies to include weekends, nights, early mornings and/or holidays.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to:  computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
  • Regular use of commercial-grade washers, dryers and heat press machines.
  • Regular use of pick-up truck, gators, and other motor vehicles to coordinate practice and daily operations of the equipment.
  • Receives general supervision from the Equipment Operations Coordinator.
  • Assist in the supervision of 3-5 student workers.
