DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Division of Advancement and Alumni Engagement utilizes resources and technology for the purpose of soliciting alumni, donor engagement, donor research, and stewardship throughout Emory University and Health Systems. Our mission is to inspire and steward meaningful, lasting relationships that elevate engagement and giving to fulfill Emory’s mission to serve humanity. The Donor Experience Academy is an immersive onboarding, training and development program for individuals who are seeking a career in major gift fundraising at Emory University.  Donor Experience Officers (DXOs) are frontline development officers leveraging digital technology to cultivate, solicit and steward donors.  This program is designed to develop future major gift officers who may be considered for assignment as a school/unit development officer pending successful completion of the program.  The program will consist of concurrent overlapping modules that will provide intensive exposure to all areas of the division while participants actively acquire and hone the skills to be a successful Donor Experience Officer (DXO). This position will report to the Managing Senior Director of the Donor Experience Academy.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Executes outreach strategies focused on connecting with prospective and current donors for the purpose of qualification.
  • Partners with Constituent Giving to execute strategies for bridging the donor pipeline from student to alumni giving.
  • Leverages strategic questions to adequately qualify the type of philanthropic and engagement relationship constituents want to have with Emory now and in the future.
  • Manages a large volume of outreach for constituents in the assigned qualification pipeline.
  • Leverages strategic questions and communications to effectively qualify philanthropic capacity and inclination of prospects.
  • Solicits annual gifts beneath the leadership annual giving level.
  • Refers prospects to Senior Associate Donor Experience Officers or S/U based Directors of Development based on classification of donor.
  • Writes and edits communication materials for distribution to donors.
  • Will assist with or promote giving initiatives with central Constituent Giving office.
  • Builds relationships with current and prospective donors, alumni, and volunteers to support programs and priorities.
  • Submits gifts for processing.
  • Liaises with central advancement offices to monitor status of the qualification, cultivation, and stewardship of prospects to build a pipeline toward major gifts.
  • Drafts communication materials directed at donors.
  • Maintains information on selected donors and prospects including contact reports in CRM system.
  • Communicates in ways that are donor-centric, while furthering the mission of Emory.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Assistant Donor Experience Officer may be required to:

  • Meet division metrics for individual and team fundraising, visit preparation, qualification, contact reports, visits, referrals, and accurate coding using the CRM system. 
  • Represent the department, school/unit, division, health system, or University. 
  • Lead team projects, moves management, metrics, and data analysis for program evaluation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and two years of experience in higher education, development, fundraising, healthcare, or related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful candidates will possess experience soliciting gifts from prospects.
  • Prior experience working in advancement, alumni engagement, non-profit, or a university setting. 
  • Experience working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, cloud-based platforms, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
  • An aptitude in mastering new software, applications, and technologies. 
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.   
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as effective presentation skills.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgment and discretion.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
