Summary of Duties:

The Assistant Director in the Office of New Student Enrollment is a member of the orientation team and reports to the Associate Director of Orientation Programs. The Assistant Director’s primary responsibilities include leading the planning and implementation of designated/assigned programs within New Student Enrollment and Orientation. Programs may include: Off-Site Orientation Program Development & Management; Parent and Family Programs; First-year and transfer Student Programs; Week of Welcome; Student Advising; Assessment and Student hiring, training, and development, Management of front office staff, and Department/University Leadership. The Assistant Director will provide direct support of all programs, while providing leadership to specific programs assigned. Position duties and responsibilities will be performed in support of office vision, mission and values as well as institutional mission and goals.


Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

  • Experience advising and/or supervising college students

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Experience giving formal presentations and/or group facilitation

  • Proven ability to perform multiple tasks and meet deadlines

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings

  • Applicant chosen must pass a background check prior to employment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of out-of-state/non-resident students and their transition to the university

  • Working knowledge of orientation, transition and retention principles

  • Experience working directly with students within the WSU Pullman system

  • Experience developing and implementing programs in a higher education environment

  • Master’s Degree in student development, higher education administration counseling or related field

Monthly Salary:

$4,569.63-$5,900.00

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
