Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | Come join our team! The financial aid industry is a very rewarding, always-evolving career field. No two days are the same for a financial aid administrator! The University of South Carolina – Columbia Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (OSFAS) awards over $475,000,000 of aid annually to students, making the dream of a college education a reality for many. This position serves as the primary financial aid trainer and professional development coordinator for all staff within the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. The incumbent develops innovative training programs for new hires, as well as current staff. Training topics include, but are not limited to, federal/state/institutional aid programs, financial aid management system usage (currently Ellucian’s Banner Financial Aid Module), customer service, and office productivity software. The incumbent also determines and recommends appropriate internal and external professional development opportunities, including participation in professional organizations. As a member of the office leadership team, this position plays a key role in the planning of annual financial aid preparation activities. |

Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. |
Preferred Qualifications | Experience in a large institution of higher education serving undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Knowledge of methods for designing, administering and evaluating training programs in Financial Aid. Knowledge of how to conduct conferences, lead discussions, instruct training groups and encourage interest, activity and participation of individuals and groups in the learning process. Advanced knowledge of all Title IV financial aid programs, state financial aid programs, and institutional aid programs in order to effectively train and advise staff at all levels. Strong management and excellent problem solving skills are necessary. Leadership capabilities, willingness to work in a team structure, and a strong dedication to student service is required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner. |
Job Duties
Job Duty | Coordinates and leads the training of all new full-time employees as well as student employees. Designs lessons, including selection and organization of content, methods and materials needed to accomplish learning objectives. Presents content and facilitates trainee group problem solving and group processing. Maintains agency contact with internal and external officials engaged in training activities. Prepares and updates all training materials used for the training of new staff and student employees. Serves as an expert in all areas of federal, state, and institutional aid administration in order to provide advice and counsel to new full-time and student employees. |
