Assistant Director, World Languages Program Tennessee Language Center (TLC) Market Range: 10 Description: Under the general direction of the Director of World Languages (WL), this position provides unit-wide support in the planning and support of group, custom and corporate classes and the management of the world languages program and instructors. The Assistant Director uses independent judgment and innovative solutions in carrying out work and represents the Director of World Languages in their absence, including program supervision, and advises and consults in a complex specialty area with great latitude in independence, (e.g., competitive research and programmatic data management). The Assistant Director is largely responsible for working closely with instructors to determine teaching schedules and plays a lead role in the confirmation/cancellation process of group classes during each of the 4 terms as well as designing and analyzing customer needs through data collection/longitudinal data analysis to identify areas for programmatic improvement and change. The Assistant Director also provides specialized programs to TLC customers either by designing curriculum, providing training to instructors, or teaching a class using TLC and industry best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities: Management and Administration (60%) § Manages all program data and files and learning management systems. § Facilitates and manages student registration for group world language classes and custom classes via a learning management system (MATRIX). § Assists with the development of new policies and methods. § Documents, creates, and updates processes and procedural manuals for the program, instructors, and students. § Organizes office operations and procedures such as scheduling of proficiency tests, instructor teaching schedules, record keeping on staffing and student enrollment. § Develops and analyzes detailed financial reports with multiple data points on group course enrollment, custom classes, corporate classes, and testing to inform decisions on marketing and client retention. § Creates invoices for corporate clients to submit to the fiscal department. § Collects and organizes monthly instructor time sheets for Director approval and processing. § Uses knowledge of language acquisition to assist in curriculum design and to train junior instructors. § Assists Director of World Languages in grant reports and applications. Promotion and Client Development, Satisfaction, and Support (35%) • Interacts with clients across all program service areas via calls, emails, social media, and walk-in, prioritizing urgency and ensuring follow-through of each contact, responding with complete information. • Assists Director of World Languages in reviewing performance of instructors using best practices in the field of world languages pedagogy, making recommendations for corrective action or re-training. • Records client interactions for WL program in data-tracking systems (Performance Point). • Performs assessments with clients and potential clients to determine their training and educational needs. • Teaches classes (as needed), provides targeted feedback, and advises learners on their learning process. • Promotes world language programs at events. • Handles logistics for class sites including maintenance and scheduling issues. • Other duties as assigned. Strategic Planning (5%) · Supports strategic direction by collaborating with Director of World Languages. · In consultation with the Director of World Languages, develops goals and objectives for certain world languages programs; analyzes long-range impact of decisions and plans. · Co-designs annual strategy retreats with World Language Admin Team to make data-informed changes in current programming, to co-design new initiatives, and to help set goals for the upcoming year. Qualifications: Education: Required · Bachelor’s Degree Preferred · Master’s Degree Experience: Required · At least 2 years’ experience teaching world languages Preferred · Experience in personnel supervision in any field Skills: Required · Strong administrative skills (e.g., class scheduling, coordinating instructors’ teaching availability, etc.) · Skilled in business or financial practices, including customer retention and relations and quality control compliance and evaluation. · Adept in computer applications including spreadsheets, word processing and databases. · Knowledge of theories of language acquisition. · Familiarity in language instruction, unit design, curriculum design and teaching methodologies. · Ability to train junior instructors in unit design, curriculum design and assessment techniques. · Ability to engage, motivate and assess language learners of different educational backgrounds, ages, and professions (if teaching). Preferred · Verifiable knowledge of a commonly taught world language and its linguistics (ACTFL level 10 or higher, CEFR level C1 or higher, ILR level 3 or higher).
