About the Department
Job Summary
Responsibilities
Facilitate workshops, seminars, career conversations, mini-courses, externships, treks, and other professional opportunities appropriate for STEM graduate students and postdocs through the myCHOICE program.
Build knowledge of career paths in academia, industry, nonprofits, and government.
Serve as a career advisor to STEM graduate students, postdocs, and recent graduate alumni.
Engage in one-on-one advising that assists graduate students and postdocs with career exploration, networking, job document preparation, and negotiation.
Develop and maintain resources that help STEM graduate students and postdocs navigate their careers at UChicago and beyond.
Send career newsletters and other communications that inform graduate students and postdocs of relevant opportunities.
Maintain websites that inform graduate students and postdocs of relevant opportunities.
Serve as a liaison between UChicagoGRAD and graduate and postdoctoral programs, developing relationships with campus partners.
Contribute to large-scale events run by UChicagoGRAD and campus partners.
Follow up with graduate students, postdocs, and recent alumni to track progress and career outcomes.
Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings.
Develops original content for career related publications and assists with the editing and distribution of Career Services communications materials.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree in a relevant STEM academic discipline.
STEM PhD in a relevant academic discipline strongly preferred.
Experience:
At least 1 year of experience teaching, advising or mentoring students.
1-2 years of experience facilitating career development programs.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Proficiency in MS PowerPoint.
Familiarity with some of the academic, industry, nonprofit, and government career options that are common for master’s students.
Proficiency in MS Office, WordPress, graphic design programs, and career services management tools.

Strong customer service orientation.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Excellent event and project management skills.
Excellent collaborator with experience working in a team environment.
Excellent cultural competency and ability to interact successfully with a diverse student body.
