Assistant Director - Schlegel Center for Service and Justice

Summary:

The Schlegel Center for Service and Justice at Creighton University “awakens hearts and lives of solidarity to build a more just world.” We implement this mission through direct service with those who are marginalized or experience injustice, justice education in the Jesuit and Catholic tradition, Ignatian Advocacy, and student formation. 

This position will focus on managing several program areas for the SCSJ including: 

Service & Justice Trips – The flagship program for the SCSJ averaging 350 students annually on approximately 50 trips.  

  • Communications – Supervising one graduate assistant and five undergraduate students to market and promote all SCSJ programs. 
  • Post-Graduate Volunteering Discernment and Resourcing – Work with 40 students annually who are discerning post-graduate volunteering. Collaborate externally with specific post-graduate volunteer programs. 
  • This position will mentor and supervise students in various capacities: 
    • One graduate assistant 
    • Eight student-staff members working on Service & Justice Trips and Communications projects 
    • Seven members of the Service & Justice Trips Core Team 
    • Up to 60 Service & Justice Trips coordinators per semester 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors required Masters Preferred in Divinity, Theology, Ministry, Social Work, Social Justice or related discipline. 
  • 5 years of related work experience preferred 
  • Supervisory experience preferred 
  • Work Experience 
  • Experience with teams of college students in faith-justice ministry, preferably in a Jesuit Catholic college or university. 
  • Experience working collaboratively and competently across a variety of cultures and in a multi-faith environment. 
  • Experience of community service or engagement with those on the margins of our society (e.g., Jesuit priority groups)  
  • Knowledge of Catholic Social Teaching and Ignatian Spirituality with skill leading ministry teams of professionals and/or university students. 
  • Demonstrated skills in oral, written, and social media communication. 
  • Commitment to racial, environmental, and social justice 
  • Experience planning and implementing complex programs
  •  
  • Proficiency skills in MS Office Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Excellent written/verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;

Strong collaborative/teamwork ability to motivate and inspire staff at all levels of the organization;

Demonstrated experience with strategic thinking and planning;

Experience with budget planning, forecasting, and fiscal management;

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement complex plans coordinated with multiple constituencies.

Ability to manage, supervise, and develop professional staff;
