Job Description

Direct responsibility for management, including budget, equipment, personnel, and programming for Outdoor Pursuits and a six week Recruits and trains climbing wall student employees and  other personnel necessary to operate the climbing wall.  Assists in the overall management of Recreational Sports, it's facilities and programs.  Some nights and weekend work required.

Responsibilities:

  • Hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates the student employees who work outdoor pursuits (outdoor trips, outdoor rentals, climbing tower and summer day camp.
  • Develops goals and objectives on a yearly basis and develops procedures and programs to meet those goals and objectives.  Conducts periodic evaluations of operations, personnel, and use of resources and program.
  • Works with assistant directors in the operation of the Virgil Henson Activities Center.
  • Develops strategies to market and promote programs.  Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience in recreational sports at a university, including related supervisory experience.
  • Requires an understanding of student development theory in context of recreational sports.
  • Public relation skills.
  • Excellent, communication and administrative skills, customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience with summer day camps in a university setting.
  • NIRSA Certifications
  • Computer experience.
  • Understands processes of the University.
