Job Description

Assistant Director

TheAssistant Director, Planning & Design is responsible for the management ofProject Development, Planning, and Design for the University's annual capitalprojects, and design support for the strategic planning of existing campusfacilities. This will include the planning, design, and implementation of theUniversity's Alteration & Renovation (A&R) process. This will also include annual Renewal &Replacement projects. The Assistant Director will develop, document, andmaintain campus architectural, accessibility, and sustainable design standards.
TheAssistant Director will provide management and leadership for a staff of 2professional employees in the Planning Group. The work will require close coordination with the Associate Director,Annual Capital Projects, Engineering and Energy Management, CapitalConstruction, and Facilities Services. It iscrucial that the Assistant Director be able to accurately identify andintegrate the MEP system impacts and design components. He/Shewill be responsible for FF&E selection / sourcing and quality control ofdesign through all phases of projects. He/She will also oversee quality controlof design through the construction phase of projects. The Planning Group isalso responsible for the archiving of project documents and campus/buildinginformation, and the management of CAD systems.
TheAssistant Director also assists the Associate Director and Director Annual CapitalProjects in overall department management and department leadership.
Requirements
Minimum of ten years of strong planning/design experience, with an emphasis on the integration of systems, is required.
Previous experience must be in a position as "responsible manager" for project design solutions, project schedule, client interaction, and project financials.
Project Management experience and personnel management of technical and design professionals is required, with the ability to handle multiple projects.
Previous experience within higher education is desirable.
Position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with MEP/FP systems design and installation, and CAD systems.
Practical in-the-field experience is required.
Experience in project scope development, cost estimating, scheduling, and budgeting is required.
Minimumof Bachelor's Degree in Interior Architecture, Architecture, Planning orConstruction Management; Advanced degree preferred. NCIDQ Certification orMassachusetts Professional Registration in Architecture preferred.
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $100,950 to $126,200; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
