Position Summary:       

The Assistant Director, Office of Career Services (OCS)/Center for Public Service Law (CPSL) will assist in running the day-to-day operations of this fast-paced Office of Career Services, with a particular emphasis on public service programs.

Position Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director’s primary responsibilities will be to counsel students interested in public service opportunities and to develop and administer public interest programs including those related to summer and post-graduate fellowships as well as New York State’s pro bono requirement. The Center for Public Service Law is housed within the Office of Career Services, which provides career counseling to all Cardozo students and alumni. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for counseling students with a broad array of career goals.

  • Counseling JD & LLM students and alumni on job search strategies and career development, with a particular emphasis on public service careers
  • Organizing and presenting panel discussions and informational programs on public service topics
  • Administering various programs including the Summer Funding Programs, Post-Graduate Public Service Fellowship Program, and Loan Repayment Assistance Program
  • Developing and managing pro bono and community service projects for students
  • Assisting with the communications of the CPSL through social media platforms, newsletters and the website
  • Engaging in outreach to public service employers

Experience & Educational Background:

  • 3-5 years prior related experience
  • J.D. required; some legal practice in public service strongly preferred
  • Some counseling or recruitment related experience strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated interest and experience in public service law
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and public speaking skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students
  • Familiarity with public sector legal employers
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collegial team
  • Seeks to apply technology and innovation to improve efficiency and solve problems
  • Superior communication skills in one-on-one conversations, groups, and written materials
  • Identifies, defines and analyzes information and situations before recommending a course of action.
