Summary of Duties:

As a key member of WSU Procurement & Contract Services, the Assistant Director is responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing the administration of contracts in support of the WSU Spokane Health Sciences Campus, including senior oversite for the most strategic and complex University contracting documents. The Assistant Director is responsible to perform all contract work including drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts, amendments, extensions, terminations, and renegotiations that legally bind the University. 
As a member of the Procurement & Contract Services leadership team, the Assistant Director advises on priorities and goals for the University’s contracts and processes, and is responsible for the implementation of these priorities and goals. Develops and implements policies and procedures and process improvements related to contract program operations, and standard operating procedures. The incumbent is responsible for assessment of contracts versus the WSU contract risk framework and their related policies, processes, and procedures.
The Assistant Director provides enhanced customer service for clients at the WSU Spokane campus, and promotes compliance with laws and best practices related to contracts processing.
The Assistant Director works closely with the WSU Spokane Vice Chancellor of Finance and Budget to prioritize needs for campus colleges and units and ensure that highest priority contract needs are met. The Assistant Director serves as a member of the Vice Chancellor of Finance and Budget leadership team.


Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment. Positions may require applicable licensure and/or certification.

  • Demonstrated ability to draft, negotiate, and implement complex contracts and purchasing documents.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of contractual issues and their application in a complex organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree/Law Degree

  • Knowledge of health care legal issues

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in problem solving

  • Computer proficiency

  • Experience in delivering customer service to a diverse population

  • Experience in providing training to or speaking in front of groups

  • Experience in policy development

  • This position is eligible for remote/hybrid work.
