Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director of Training & Professional Development for Learning Centers.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Manages all aspects of peer leader training and professional development for the Learning Centers and partnering programs.
  • Designs, developments, delivers and coordinates the Learning Centers’ academic peer leader training, in alignment with CRLA standards for tutor training programs.
  • Designs and develops workshops and online modules, supervision of staff, oversight and training for observations and mentoring, and coordination with other academic support units.
  • Develops curricular and training materials, for both online and in-person delivery.
  • Recruits, hires, coordinates, and supervises training staff, part-time lecturers and co-adjunct instructors, workshop presenters from other units, and advanced peer leaders to provide job training, course instruction, and professional development for student, part-time, and full-time staff. This position will also co-coordinate the Pedagogy of Peer-Led Learning course with the Director of Integrated Support Programs.
  • Develops appropriate assessment strategies and identifies best practices in training and professional development.
  • Works collaboratively with all of the Learning Center Directors and other instructional and academic support staff to develop and enhance a cohesive program of academic support across the New Brunswick Campus.
  • Works with the Executive Director to develop funding proposals to support these initiatives

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Masters degree in education or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in (a) related academic or academic support position(s), in which a significant percentage of time was dedicated to teaching or other forms of instruction (workshops, tutoring, etc.).
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or academic support.
  • Strong writing and organizational skills, understanding of instructional and academic support issues, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and computer and data management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate across units.
  • Advanced knowledge of teaching and learning, with significant experience in academic support.
  • Training others how to teach effectively in academic support environments and therefore must be able to serve as a model instructor and develop evidence-based, effective curricula for training programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of current pedagogies, creating inclusive learning environments, and best practices in teaching and learning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in training student staff.
  • Experience working with STEM disciplines.
  • Certification from a national organization (CRLA, NTA, NCLCA, etc.),.
  • Experience working in higher education.
Equipment Utilized
  • This position will be expected to have a knowledge of standard word processing programs, spreadsheet software, online communication tools, learning management systems, and presentation software’s, as well as the ability and skills to work with such analytical programs as are required by the assessments developed.
  • This position will also be expected to have or develop the ability to edit the Learning Centers’ website (currently using Drupal as the content management system) in order to maintain the website and update it as necessary.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • This position will be expected to operate standard office and presentation equipment, such as laptops, teleconferencing equipment, and projection screens.
  • Travel between the New Brunswick campuses.
  • Some evening and weekend hours will be required to ensure Peer Leader Orientation can be scheduled at times when peer leaders are available.
