Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Assistant Director of the Faculty Consulting Group (FCG) assists in the day-to-day operations of FCG, ensuring that faculty receive timely support related to course design, multimedia production, and pedagogical methods. This position also helps guide the team in selecting new learning technologies and researching new instructional methods. The Assistant Director role reports to the Director of the Faculty Consulting Group, helping develop strategies for course experiences, representing efforts with faculty and program leaders, and serving on committees that support work and programs across the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Assistant Director of the Faculty Consulting Group directly manages the learning experience team within the FCG. This role will also helps manage the various projects and initiatives across the FCG in partnership with faculty, and work collaboratively with MBA, MAC, UBP (Undergraduate Business Program), and Executive Education.
A strong candidate will be able to demonstrate effective strategic planning, project management, communication and growth.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to consulting or developing course content, curriculum, instructional technique/technology, distance education design, development or implementation, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with instructional design (or a related field) and/or higher education administration is required. Strong proficiency in technology tools and data management processes. Strong organization and coordination skills. Efficient in an independent or team-based environment. Enjoy working in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment. The successful candidate must demonstrate leadership skills and strong project management skills while relating well to best in class educators.
Experience designing and delivering solutions to support active learning, both synchronous and asynchronous.
Experience with digital accessibility standards and/or delivering accessible course content.
Strong customer service orientation and willingness to take a hands-on approach.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse community made up of individuals from a variety of disciplines with a wide range of pedagogical, organizational and technological skills.
Ability to work both independently as an individual contributor, and collaboratively as a team leader or member.
Experience in project management, including managing time, establishing priorities and meeting milestones and deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred candidates will have five or more years of instructional design and/or higher education administration experience with a degree granting institution, preferably in a business curriculum. Preferred candidates will have specific knowledge or experience working in or in partnership with at least some of the following areas: asynchronous course creation, instructional technologies, hybrid/virtual events, video production, and adult and non-traditional credit and non-credit programs.
Preferred candidates will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of business course content and possess the ability to evaluate the quality of courses and course delivery.
Experience working with an OPM (online program management) provider is a plus.
Experience with Quality Matters rubric and peer review process for course quality is a plus.
