The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Health Services. The leadership position of the Assistant Director of UNG Student Health Services will be a Full-Time, benefitted Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant position responsible for clinical work and, at the direction of the Director of UNG Student Health, for the supervision of day-to-day operations of the service and supervision of both clinical and non-clinical staff members in the department. In this multi-campus position, with a primary responsibility for Dahlonega/Gainesville, the NP will practice under the direction of the University Physician according to mutually agreeable written protocols and in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner Act and rules and regulations established by the State of Georgia. The NP/PA has the opportunity to provide quality care and treatment for students with minor injuries and illnesses as well as consultations, physical exams and procedures in the Women's and Men's area. The Assistant Director facilitates referrals of those students whose illnesses or injuries are beyond the capability of the UNG Student Health Services. In addition to background checks for all cardholders, O.C.G.A. § 50-5-83 requires a credit check on all employees issued a purchasing card. Additionally, credit checks must be run at the time of Pcard renewal. 

  • Both in-person and via telehealth, obtains health history and explores chief complaint; performs physical examinations and/or procedures indicated by the complaints, records pertinent data on patient's electronic chart consisting of subjective and objective findings, assessment and impression along with plan of care; orders, conducts as needed, and interprets lab testing and delivers medications as needed to patients indicated by treatment plan.
  • Consults physician as indicated. Provides referrals to appropriate physicians, specialist, dentist, or other health care providers for consultation as needed.
  • Provides patient education as indicated by nature of complaints or illness. Formulates and prepares health education handouts. Provides health information to students, staff, and parents.
  • Establishes policies and procedures and departmental goals and objectives in concert with the Director of Student Health to promote more efficient health care services; assist with updating pharmacy formulary; responsible for purchasing and overseeing ordering of medications, and supplies while supporting budget regulations and limits. Will be P-card holder for the Dahlonega/Gainesville clinic and will be responsible for upholding and following P-Card rules and regulations, including mandatory training.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations and supervision of departmental staff including monitoring time and evaluating work performance. Participates in University and Division of Student Success and Engagement initiatives and communicates as appropriate with AVP of Well-being and Director of Student Health Services; Attends meetings as directed and completes other work as assigned.
  • Responsible for scheduling staffing for the departments' clinics as well as organizing and providing staffing and/or medical supervision of Open House, Orientation, Summer Camp, and Corps of Cadets event coverage as needed and appropriate.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Must have knowledge of current medical treatment practices, trends, and remedies.
  • Computer skills.
  • Ability and skill in diagnosis and treatment of students with illness and/or injuries. 
  • Must have the ability to network with area medical specialist and facilities to enhance referrals when needed.
  • Must have a Bachelor's from Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant program from an accredited institution.
  • Must have current NP or PA licensure in the State of Georgia.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant experience in a family practice, urgent care, or hospital setting required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.
