Purpose

Works with the Director and Associate Director of Student Emergency Services to provide supportive leadership to the unit, student crisis intervention, referral to campus and community resources, participating in after-hours response.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide immediate and on-going support to students in crisis including, but not limited to, interacting with students and their families, student affairs offices, academic units, and relevant departments to coordinate university responses to students' needs.

  • Responsible for managing daily intake of student requests.

  • Assist the Dean of Students with threat assessment and significant incidents in the University community.

  • Participate in after-hours response and serve as an emergency contact for UHD, UTPD, CMHC, and other departments after hours, on weekends and holidays.

  • Serve as a back-up to the director for the Emergency Operations Center and International Crisis Advisory Team. Serve on secondary on-call rotation with the director and associate director for high profile cases and significant incidents. Responsible for communicating with leadership when needed.

  • Meets with students, faculty, campus colleagues, community members and others, as appropriate, for consultation, education, and problem solving. Serves as a resource on student behavior concerns at the institution.

  • Supervises the intake case manager for the unit.

  • Assists or leads special assignments within the unit and the Office of the Dean of Students, including committee appointments.

Required Qualification:

Master’s degree and 5 years of experience in case management or higher education administration, residence life or other community agency relating to student development. Direct experience with individual crisis management and in the development, implementation, mediation, and evaluation of crisis and-or grief intervention protocols. Experience supervising staff. Experience with case management and case consultation. Demonstrated organizational, administrative, listening and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work under stress, perform multiple tasks, and maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build campus partnerships. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a diverse community and provide programs and services from a non-judgmental perspective. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in student affairs administration, social work, psychology, counseling or related field. More than five years of experience counseling or working with college students, including the following - supervision and leadership experience, threat and risk assessment experience, direct experience with crisis management and in the development, implementation, mediation, and evaluation of crisis and-or grief intervention protocols, and assessment experience. Experience with supporting victims of a crime. Experience working with a law enforcement agency. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment regarding student problems, parental and faculty concerns.

Salary Range:

$73,600 non-negotiable
