Position Details
The Office of Advancement builds lifelong relationships with alumni, parents, and friends, and engages them in support of Wesleyan’s educational mission and financial goals.
The Advancement team fosters pride in the Wesleyan community and develops support for university initiatives through outreach activities, including development/fundraising; alumni & parent relations and on and off-campus events.
Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, the Assistant Director of Stewardship is responsible for managing strategic donor relations initiatives that are used to communicate with a donor after receipt of their gift.
Core responsibilities include overseeing the production of high-volume, deadline-driven donor communications, developing and maintaining excellent stewardship records, and serving as a departmental resource on all matters related to fund stewardship.
The Assistant Director supports the overall vision and strategy of the Donor Relations team by working to recognize, inform, and engage donors while illustrating the impact of philanthropy at Wesleyan.
Responsibilities include:
  • Together with the Director of Donor Relations, implement and coordinate a broad-based strategy of donor recognition, stewardship, and donor communications, as well as ensure the proper documentation and allocation of donor funding.
  • Manage all aspects of the creation and distribution of more than 1200 annual impact reports on stewarded funds including scholarships, professorships, and experiential education funds.
  • Implement and administer the scholarship fund matching process.
  • Serve as first point of contact for Advancement colleagues for matters related to fund documentation and stewardship reporting.
  • Collaborate with teams within Advancement and across campus, including the Gordon Career Center, Finance, Financial Aid, and Academic Affairs to collect and share information needed for key deliverables.
  • Manage the integrity of stewardship information in Affinaquest, Academic Works, and Donor Relations files. Ensure that stewardship materials are organized, accurate, and accessible to colleagues.
  • Oversee process and implementation for donor recognition signage across campus, including tracking and maintaining records.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of Donor Relations and campus events including ribbon cuttings, dedications, Homecoming/Family Weekend, Reunion & Commencement and campaign-related and VIP events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is a hybrid position with on-campus and remote work schedules. Remote work is only considered for residents of MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI, or NY. (Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify).


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of related experience and education.
Well-versed in Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated ability to understand financial and quantitative documents and text.
Effective communication skills.

Ability and interest in learning new software programs and technology.
Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills.
Strong customer service focus; ability to listen and respond with diplomacy and tact.
Keen sense of judgment with regard to confidential matters.
Demonstrated ability to handle time pressures and competing priorities during peak periods.
Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.
Ability to work independently toward goals and take initiative with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Salesforce/Affinaquest.
Previous experience in a development or higher education.
