Position Summary
Jackson State University, an NCAA Division I (FCS) member of the NCAA and Southwestern Athletic Conference and one of the leading institutions of higher education in the region, is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director of Sports Media.

Qualifications


Minimum Required Education
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, mass communications or English.
Minimum Required Experience
  • At least two years of experience in a communications or journalism position primary positioned in or around college or professional sports
  • Web content management experience.

None.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Exceptional writing, organizational, and people skills.
  • Familiarity with publicizing programs via various social media and digital platforms.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop content themes and concepts to promote and increase awareness of the university’s athletics teams, events, and initiatives
  • Write press releases and game stories
  • Compile and maintain statistical information.
  • Maintain the athletics web page
  • Develop content for social media and digital platform
  • Work with the media and sports information offices of competing institutions and conferences and the NCAA national office to ensure that results are disseminated as quickly and effectively as possible to local, regional, and national media outlets.
