We are in search of a dynamic individual to join the management team of Informatics and Strategic Initiatives within Boston University's (BU) Campus Planning & Operations. This role is integral to strategically leveraging information in support of the University's academic, research, and student life programs, which span over 15 million gross square feet across three primary campuses (Charles River, Medical, and Fenway), as well as numerous domestic and international facilities. The Assistant Director of Space Management assumes a pivotal role in overseeing a comprehensive program for collecting, maintaining, and analyzing Boston University's space and facility information. Working collaboratively with colleagues across various University offices including Campus Planning, Sustainability, Financial Affairs, Research, Budget & Business Affairs, and the Office of the Provost they will structure and manage large volumes of facility and space-related data in space@BU, a cloud-based space and asset management information system. This support extends to fulfilling diverse financial, operational, and other business needs, including the execution of periodic audits, reports, and updates. Reporting to the Director of Space Management & Systems, the Assistant Director will be entrusted with mentoring and supervising two analysts, as well as one to three interns (BU students) and/or co-op students (non-BU students). Collaborating closely with the Director and Associate Vice President, they will play an active role in establishing standards, processes, policies, and strategies to advance space and asset management, campus planning and operations, and research administration. An ideal candidate for this position possesses a keen understanding of the nexus between the University's strategic initiatives and facility operations/maintenance. They will adeptly extract facility asset information from multiple data sources, including drawings, specifications, and site visits, and offer recommendations informed by this data. Expertise in AutoCAD as well as proficiency in comprehending information system data structures, utilizing data systems, and presenting analysis tailored to diverse audiences are fundamental aspects of this role.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field: Engineering, Architecture, Facilities, or equivalent experience.
- Five to ten years or more of experience in a related field such as Engineering, Architecture, Facilities, or Corporate Real Estate, with a solid understanding of business planning, construction, and technology.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit, including expertise in interoperability and translations using both tools.
- Experience and advanced skills in data manipulation using Microsoft Office, Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM), and/or Business Intelligence/Analytical tools such as PowerBI and Tableau.
- Ability to effectively navigate a complex organizational structure using an influence model, coupled with strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated soft skills including multitasking and self-motivation.
