Assistant Director of Retention and Student Success
Job Description
Position Description:
The Assistant Director of Retention and Student Success will be responsible for assisting in the coordination, planning, implementation, and evaluation of retention and student success initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Retention and Student Success, the Assistant Director will work closely with staff to design and facilitate data collection, provide insight on programs and initiatives, and present reports. The Assistant Director will foster collaborative partnerships with units across the institution with the primary goal of cultivating a culture that embraces retention and student success as an institutional beacon and a shared responsibility. The successful candidates will need to be able to organize and plan projects effectively, handle multiple work priorities and the ability to exercise good judgement.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, or related field.
- Minimum of 1 year of professional experience working in Higher Education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated competence in administration and student retention.
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data reports.
- Budget planning and management.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience in reporting departments.

Responsibilities:
UNIV 101: Freshman Seminar:
- Assist with development of UNIV 101 curriculum and instructor training.
- Coordinate UNIV 101 Sections.
- Teach a UNIV 101 Section.
- Assist with recruitment and training of instructors and student success coaches.
- Develop seminars for special populations (first-generation, transfer, international).
Early Tiger Alert:
- Assist with Early Tiger Alert- call students who are flagged and help them get connected to their instructor, resources, support, etc.
- Develop and coordinate referrals to relevant university and community services and departments (mental health counseling, alcohol and drug counseling, accessibility accommodations, and other health-related concerns) when needed.
- Oversee student employees for Early Tiger Alert management.
Student & Faculty Engagement:
- Present and engage with students at Tiger Stripes.
- Facilitate regular communication to engage students over the summer.
- Develop campus-wide and external partnerships to support seminars.
- Coordinate Campus Orientation Programs
Tutoring Services:
- Assist with the campus-based peer tutoring program.
Reporting:
- Prepare reports, make presentations to varied audiences (large & small groups) including students, staff, faculty and administrators.
- Assist with program assessment, outcomes evaluation, and research efforts for all populations.
