Primary Purpose of Department
The Graduate School at UNC Charlotte fosters excellence in all dimensions of post baccalaureate studies and is the primary advocate for graduate education and for graduate students at the University. Established in 1985, the Graduate School offers 24 doctoral, 65 master’s degree programs, and more than 50 graduate certificate programs in a wide variety of fields and specialties ranging from architecture, biomedical engineering, computing, engineering, and health administration to history, teacher education, creative writing, business, nursing and social work. The Graduate School has over 800 members of the Regular Graduate Faculty who teach and mentor more than 5,500 graduate students who come from nearly every state in the union and from a variety of countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America. The mission of the Office of Graduate Admissions is to meet established University enrollment goals by recruiting exemplary graduate applicants and by helping Graduate Program Directors utilize best practices to effectively enroll the optimal size class. Our goal is to recruit individuals who can contribute to and benefit from the myriad of teaching, service, and research opportunities available at North Carolina’s Urban Research University. We collaborate with a variety of stakeholders across campus to advocate for graduate education, facilitate recruitment and enrollment and timely progress to the degree, and effectively curate the application and admissions processes for almost 11,000 applicants annually.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director of Recruitment will lead and support efforts to grow the international graduate and undergraduate student populations at UNC Charlotte. The primary role of this position will be to assist in the development and execution of a multi-year international enrollment management plan proposal in addition to a host of support services that will assist in the development of partnerships, connections and pipelines between UNC Charlotte colleges/faculty and entities from abroad (institutions, organizations and sponsors). This individual will also understand recruitment trends, market characteristics/intelligence and emerging regions best positioned to send degree seeking graduate students to the U.S. Significant partnership with the International Student and Scholars Office, Undergraduate Admissions, and Graduate Program constituents is required.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
This position recruits applicants to graduate programs via recruitment events, in-person and digital communications, and partners with graduate enrollment constituents to ensure both print and digital marketing materials are appropriate for face-to-face and virtual recruitment. The individual must be completely versed in the admissions requirements of 150+ graduate programs and 170 undergraduate majors, as well as the funding opportunities and academic experiences embedded in graduate programs. Additionally, the person is responsible for engaging with faculty and administrative staff both a UNC Charlotte as well as at universities in the U.S. to develop collaborative partnerships to help recruit and enroll a diverse group of graduate students. And, finally, the person in this position is responsible for being well-versed in best practices in graduate student recruitment and enrollment of both domestic and international students, and providing that information to Graduate Program Directors in an effort to enroll the optimum size class of exemplary graduate students.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree is required. 
  • Four or more years of experience in recruitment, pre-admissions counseling, and/or graduate student services.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • A master’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as counseling, higher education, marketing, data science, or communication studies, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain rapport with a diverse prospective student population.
  • Ability to lead and manage the recruitment cycle to grow enrollment.
  • Experience working in enrollment technologies and software (SLATE, Banner, etc.).
  • Knowledge of graduate prospective student markets and enrollment trends.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills; data analysis skills; and present
  • Comfortable working in high-volume, fast-paced, multi-location environments with the ability to establish priorities, manage deadlines, and exercise a high degree of professionalism in interactions with all levels of internal and external constituencies.
