Project Threshold is a component of the TRIO program at the University of Oklahoma which supports low income and first-generation students in college success. The Assistant Director is under the immediate administrative supervision of the Program Director. This position provides academic support to program students and acts as the direct supervisor to departmental student employees.

Essential Duties

  • Oversees the administrative activities of a designated program or programs as measured by improved GPAs, retention, and/or graduation of the targeted population.
  • Responsible for daily program operations including staff supervision, program evaluations, and developing long-range plans.
  • Collects and analyzes data and prepares reports.
  • Ensures compliance with program regulations.
  • Plans and coordinates program events.
  • Develops and administers budgets for assigned projects and programs.
  • Negotiates and administers grants and contracts.
  • Plans and oversees project management.
  • Develops policies and procedures.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or as required to successfully fulfill functions of the position.
  • Operates a cost-effective SSS program.
  • Direct hiring and supervision on staff/student employees especially in director's absence.
  • Attends training programs and conferences that relate to the improvement of the SSS program.
  • Works to coordinate activities with other area TRIO Programs as necessary.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND: 

  • 48 months of related experience.

Equivalent Substitution: Will accept 48 months of experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree to equal 96 months of related experience. 

Skills:

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Able to effectively evaluate projects and programs and produce comprehensive reports.
  • Able to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively.
  • Must be able to read and interpret policy as well as State and Federal regulations
  • Sensitivity to the needs of targeted TRIO populations
  • Knowledge of operating within a university culture and setting
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writings.
  • Composition and proofreading skills.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in navigating and maintaining databases.
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Ability to communicate well and build rapport with students, faculty, and staff..

Departmental Preferences:

  • Masters Degree (especially in guidance and clinical counseling with licensure or experience in a counseling field).
  • Successful experience in performing duties associated with academic administration, either secondary or post-secondary.
  • Counseling experience with low-income/first-generation/disabled students.
  • Applicants who have been a participant in a TRIO program or who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to the target population.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the philosophy of federally funded educational opportunity programs.
  • Personal characteristics to ensure successful direction of the program by effective supervision of Student Support Services (SSS) staff and maintenance of production relationships with other related University staff, faculty, and administration.
