JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the day to day administration of the practicum education program for assigned program and students as per program needs. Develops, facilitates and provides oversight for practicums for 100-125 graduate and/or undergraduate students. Collaborates with other assistant directors, and with site and program administrators as needed.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $63,000 - $73,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REPORTS TO: Director of Field Education

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Develop and evaluate new and existing practicum settings.
  • Conduct practicum education assessments for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of evaluation instruments for agency and student planning.
  • Conduct placement planning meetings with students; facilitate and coordinate all practicum placement assignments.
  • Supervise adjunct faculty serving as faculty liaisons, in collaboration with the director of practicum education and the associate dean for academic affairs.
  • Provide consultation to faculty liaisons working to support student success in practicums.
  • Provide guidance to students experiencing challenges in practicum education.
  • Collaborate with faculty liaisons to develop educational contracts for students who are not demonstrating progress in developing required competencies.
  • Provide consultation to faculty liaisons on any continuing or unresolved student performance-related issue in practicum and work with the faculty liaison and director of practicum education to develop any Academic Standards Committee referrals.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of professional development for students, practicum instructors, educational coordinators, and faculty liaisons.
  • Review, revise, and approve employment-based practicum education plans as assigned.
  • Serve on the Practicum Education Committee, and other School committees as assigned.
  • Uses designated practicum education software to maintain a database of student placements and agencies.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
  • REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.    
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholder groups, including students, faculty and practicum agency personnel.
  • Commitment to social justice and anti-racist practice.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of social work practice.
  • Extensive knowledge and skill in practicum instruction, training, and supervision.
  • Ability to manage diverse student and agency workload.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of the continuing education needs of the professional community.
  • EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • M.S.W. (Masters in Social Work) from a CSWE accredited School of Social Work is required.
  • LMSW or LCSW is required.
  • Minimum of six years post M.S.W direct practice experience, including three years of relevant supervisory and administrative experience is preferred.
  • Relevant experience in practicum education or related area(s) of social work education, and relevant experience in providing training to practitioners.
