University of Oklahoma Athletics Department is looking for a creative, self-motivated, and enthusiastic member to join the graphic design department as the Assistant Director of Photography. This position contributes to the overall vision and goals of Oklahoma Athletics by capturing moments and engaging content that tells the story of our athletics programs and student-athletes through photo. The Assistant Director assists the Director of Photography in coverage/support for all photography-related requests and collaborates with the creative staffs to elevate departmental initiatives while ensuring a cohesive style across all department photography.

Essential Functions:

  • Support and manage the department’s digital archive, performing accurate editing, correction and photo organization
  • Collaborate with the Director of Photography, student interns and freelance staff to ensure adequate coverage of events and functions and a cohesive style across all department photography
  • Attend and take photos at photoshoots, department events, and competitions as assigned
  • Assist in the coordination of photoshoots for each sport program, providing both sport staff and external areas with high-quality headshot and portrait-style photographs
  • Participate in new content development and idea generation to help drive the brand and narrative of Oklahoma Athletics
  • Collaborate with creative staffs to develop creative direction and assist in its execution with student-athletes at photoshoots
  • Collaborate with departmental stakeholders including but not limited to Communications, Marketing, Sooner Vision and coaching staffs to continually align and elevate departmental initiatives
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends with occasional travel to cover events and functions
 

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Graphic Design, Photography, Communications, or related field AND;

  • 12 months of professional photographer experience
  • Photography experience must include in-game sport photography and studio or location photoshoots

Skills:

  • Basic knowledge in wireless file transmitting and FTP systems
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
  • Adherence to University, Conference, and NCAA rules
  • Artistic vision
  • Technical knowledge of camera equipment and the art of photography
  • Post-production editing
  • Visual editing software skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a team

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
  • Operates and transports cameras, video and sound equipment weighing up to fifty pounds to locations on and off-campus

Departmental Preference: 

  • Develop a good rapport with other members of the Athletics Department
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years of experience as a professional photographer
  • Studio, location photoshoots, and in-game photography for various sports
  • Experience in Digital Asset Management systems, knowledge in metadata, organizing and archiving files
  • Knowledgeable of basic photography-related software, including but not limited to Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom, Photo shelter, Photo mechanic and INFLCR

Positions Directly Supervised: Shared oversight of student interns
