Chief Objective of Position
This position will assist in the cultivation of external relationships for the Luter School of Business with prospective students, businesses, alumni, potential donors, and the Luter School of Business Advisory Boards. The assistant director will also plan events and lead programs that provide exposure to business leaders on campus for student benefit by working with the Dean, Assistant Dean, and Advisory Boards to advance the mission of Christopher Newport University and the Luter School of Business for undergraduate and graduate programs.
Work Tasks
  • Plans, organizes, and executes the annual Luter Connect networking dinner, a special event designed for Luter students and business partners.
  • Plans, organizes, and executes the annual Homecoming Tailgate for the Luter School.
  • Cultivates relationships with retired executives, alumni, and members of the Advisory Boards for meaningful engagement with Luter School of Business (LSoB) students.
  • Provides outreach and support to Luter’s entrepreneurship Center.
  • Represents the Luter School at University undergraduate and graduate recruitment events and organizes faculty representatives.
  • Organizes the industry volunteers to serve as panelists/judges for the BUSN 418 Strategy Capstone final presentations.
  • Works collaboratively with the Assistant Director for Student Professional Development and the Center for Career Planning to plan Luter Career & Networking Receptions, including but not limited to “Meet the Firms” and Luter’s participation in promoting graduate school opportunities.
  • Coordinates communication with Luter School of Business alumni.
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive list of Luter School of Business alumni and volunteers.
  • Manages Luter School of Business LinkedIn presence.
  • Works collaboratively and collectively with the Luter Administrative Team.
  • Develops and maintains very positive and professional customer service and/or relations within the office/department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Fully supports the “Student’s First” value at CNU and routinely goes the extra mile in providing service.
  • This position is designated as a “responsible employee” who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty.
  • Review and communicate safety issues to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absence.
  • Follow workplace safety regulations and adhere to applicable standards, processes, and programs established for your position.
  • Immediately report unsafe work conditions and work-related incidents to your supervisor and participate in accident investigation requests.

Required Education
Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree and related experience that equates to an advanced degree.

Salary Information Starting at $56,000, commensurate with education and experience.
