Job Summary:

The Assistant Director for Scholarships and Outreach supports the Office of Financial Aid and students by overseeing the management of Donor funded restricted and unrestricted scholarships held by University, Development, campus departments and academic units, assisting them in the development, awarding and management of those funds. They will develop and maintain a comprehensive outreach campaign, as well as conduct student workshops. Additionally, the Assistant Director for Systems collaborates in assisting with student and other customer contacts during peak periods and/or absence of other assigned staff.

Job Description:
  • Responsible for compliance with University, State and Federal regulations as they pertain to the donor funded scholarships and the awarding of the funds.
  • Manages data in the Financial Aid Information System student aid database using knowledge of federal needs analysis and federal and state financial aid programs when awarding scholarship funds.
  • Counsels current and prospective students and parents in identifying internal and external scholarship opportunities.
  • Conducts scholarship workshops.
  • Participates in developing software and programs to support and enhance the administration of various scholarship programs.
  • Assists in producing scholarship marketing materials.
  • Develop comprehensive outreach campaigns to financial aid students in print, email, via phone, etc. concerning professional judgment options and tracks success for future planning purposes.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert (tax preparation, professional judgment regulations, and verification) to coordinate training opportunities for members of the USF community.
  • Conducts completion workshops to support and articulate processes for student comprehension.
  • Assist the Financial Aid team with advisor of the day customer service duties.
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision and values.
  • Engages positively with colleagues, handles conflict directly and professionally, contributes to team discussions, collaborates and helps colleagues, assumes the best from colleagues, provides and accepts constructive feedback, follows through on commitments, and supports final decisions that are made.
  • Act as “back-up” initial contact for all students, faculty, staff, and other guests of the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Travel to training workshops as assigned.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve on committees as authorized by the Director.
  • Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the Director or Associate Director.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of higher education experience - admissions or financial aid with counseling, customer service, and/or administrative support.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data and to use independent judgment where appropriate.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse client population, and commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer services.
  • Experience with and knowledge of PC based administrative software - Microsoft suite including Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated ease of learning new software and computer technology.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Any combination of experience with Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, and/or Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and/or institutional financial aid program rules, regulations, or processes.
  • 3+ years of progressive work in a financial aid or student financial services environment.
