JOB SUMMARY
UConn’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) is pleased to invite applications for an Assistant Director of Faculty Development. The incumbent will work with faculty, staff, postdoctoral teaching fellows, and teaching assistants across all UConn campuses (Storrs, Avery Point, Stamford, Waterbury, and Hartford) to improve teaching effectiveness and elevate student learning outcomes. This position reports to the Executive Director of Faculty Development in CETL.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate workshops, seminars, teaching talks, reading groups, and learning communities to build capacity and community around excellence in teaching and engaged learning.
- Work with individual faculty members through consultations and observations to promote teaching practices that are evidence-based, inclusive, effective, critically reflective, and innovative.
- Collaborate with colleagues in faculty development, eCampus, and Educational Technologies to develop and deliver resources and programming that align with the CETL mission, campus initiatives, and identified needs related to access, engagement, belonging, and evidence-based teaching and learning.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff on pedagogical and curricular initiatives related to equity-minded, engaged, inclusive, and evidence-based teaching and learning.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and scholarship related to teaching and learning.
- Travel to UConn regional campuses to engage instructors, build relationships, identify needs, and share educational development resources.
- Perform related responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A terminal degree.
- Three years of demonstrated experience providing support for teaching in areas such as course design, classroom interaction, assessment strategies, integrating technology, or lesson planning for instructors in a higher education environment.
- Five semesters of experience developing and teaching college-level courses.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
- A demonstrated ability to work collegially with faculty, staff, and students in an academic setting.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Knowledge and demonstrated use of effective, evidence-based, equitable teaching and learning practices.
- Experience in facilitating meetings in multiple modalities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated experience with equity-based teaching.
- Three years of full-time experience as a post-secondary instructor.
- Advanced or specialized certifications or training.
- Expertise and experience that would complement the existing faculty development team.
- Demonstrated experience in higher education settings working with faculty, staff, and students with diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
- Experience with supporting instructors as they engage the scholarship of teaching and learning.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time, end-date position that is annually renewable based on performance and available funding.
