Description of Work Unit
The Women and Gender Advocacy Center provides programs and resources focusing on all genders, social justice, and interpersonal violence prevention. Additionally, the WGAC provides advocacy and support for victims of sexual violence, stalking, sexual harassment, relationship violence, and adult survivors of sexual assault. Our purpose is to provide a safe and affirming space for the students we serve at Colorado State University, while supporting systemic change to end all forms of oppression within our community.
WGAC programs and services include: 1) Educational and outreach programming on gender related concerns; 2) General information and resource referral on issues related to gender; 3) Victim advocacy and assistance for survivors of interpersonal violence; and 4) The WGAC lending library of print and media materials.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Prevention and Education in the Women and Gender Advocacy Center (WGAC) is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Director. The Assistant Director shares in providing leadership for the mission of the Women and Gender Advocacy Center through the initiation, development, administration, and evaluation of programs and services. This position provides leadership and implementation for education and outreach programming on social justice issues, with a specific focus on gender based violence prevention and sex and gender-based issues throughout the campus and community through various workshops and educational programs. The Assistant Director performs special project work developing and implementing interpersonal violence prevention programs in collaboration with Office for Inclusive Excellence student diversity centers. To be successful, the AD must represent WGAC mission and values in conjunction with CSU’s Principles of Community. Position will assume additional responsibilities in the absence of the Director.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Women’s studies or a social science related field completed by the start date
  • Three years of related experience in a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated experience with the coordination, planning and facilitation of social justice educational programming about topics related to interpersonal violence and/or the dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression across multiple identities (i.e. race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, disability, etc)
  • At least one year supervision experience
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as necessary to best meet the needs of our students
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with dynamics related to interpersonal violence within marginalized communities
  • Demonstrated experience with the coordination, planning and facilitation of interpersonal violence educational programming for students.
  • Demonstrated success in educational program design including large-scale marketing initiatives and/or social norming campaigns
  • Ability to understand and articulate sex and gender-related needs and concerns from a social justice perspective that includes the intersections of gender, race, class, ability, sexual orientation, and other significant aspects of identity.
  • Demonstrated experience with social justice education with university athletics and/or fraternity/sorority life
  • Demonstrated experience with the coordination and training of peer educators
  • Experience with supervision of professional staff
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with people, programs and organizations with distinctly varied missions, goals, and objectives
  • Demonstrated experience with data collection, creating reports, assessment and developing/implementing learning outcomes
  • A record of personal and professional initiative, flexibility and strong communication skills, including public speaking and writing.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading and/or writing in an additional language. Ideally Spanish, Arabic and/or Chinese.

Provides leadership and vision, development and delivery and determines procedures for all aspects all programming that relates to interpersonal violence (IPV) such as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Relationship Violence Awareness Month, Stalking Awareness Month, Men’s Engagement, Ram Orientation Understanding Consent sessions, Men in the Movement, Fraternities and Sororities Against Sexual Assault (academic course), Red Whistle Brigade programming, CTMO events including CTMO Carnival, Radical Self-Love events for Survivors, Do You Even Lift, Bro? Men Exercising Social Justice Podcast, SDPS identity-specific programming related to IPV, IPV programming for student-athletes, ROTC and University Housing
In the absence of the director, makes decisions related to budget, strategic partnerships, and educational programming efforts
Troubleshoots and resolves sensitive issues as they arise while ensuring confidentiality pursuant to C.R.S. § 13-90-107(k)(I)(II) is not jeopardized
Initiates, partners with and makes decisions about academic and campus partnerships to develop campus-wide programmatic efforts both in and beyond the classroom
Provides leadership, onboarding, supervision, (makes hiring decisions, conducts semester performance evaluations, and determines salary increases) and professional development for: Programming and Violence Prevention Coordinator; Indirect reports of 2 FTE; and
Student staff of up to 18 peer educators who work an average of 10 hours a week
Makes fiscal decisions related to WGAC interpersonal violence (IPV) programming such as Sexual Assault Awareness Month ($25K), Relationship Violence Awareness Month ($5K), Stalking Awareness Month, Men’s Engagement ($10K), Men in the Movement, Fraternities and Sororities Against Sexual Assault (academic course), Red Whistle Brigade programming ($10K), CTMO events including CTMO Carnival ($10K), Radical Self-Love events for Survivors ($5K), Do You Even Lift, Bro? Men Exercising Social Justice Podcast, IPV programming for student-athletes, ROTC and University Housing
Collaborates with director on annual assessment and data analysis of WGAC programs and services to support funding requests and improve operations; contribute to annual department strategic plan review and revisions
Leads WGAC in collaborative development and delivery of programs and services with 6 other Student Diversity Programs and Services (SDPS) Cultural Centers, including SDPS identity-specific programming related to IPV
Leads and manages all aspects of the Red Whistle Brigade, CSU’s peer education program on gender related concerns.
Coordinate the Understanding Rape Supportive Culture program/class, creating awareness around issues of sexual assault in the fraternity/sorority community.
Oversee Men in the Movement, a program designed to educate college men about their role in ending sexism and motivate them to be active change agents
Oversee social media and online marketing, outreach and engagement for educational efforts and campus-wide initiatives like CTMO (Consent Turns Me On), Reframe, WGAC newsletter, WGAC website and other center social media platforms.
Represent WGAC in collaborative development and delivery of interpersonal violence prevention programs with six Student Diversity Programs and Services (SDPS) Cultural Centers for combined SDPS Center student staff training/orientation, Athletics, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Housing, and ROTC.
Manage operations for educational programming: triage program requests, assess/determine appropriate educational response, and assigning peer and/or professional staff facilitators.
Serve as a positive role model for Colorado State University students.
