Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Development and working with a talented team of advancement professionals, the Assistant Director of Development plays an integral role in the philanthropic and outreach efforts of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. The Assistant Director of Development will connect the passions of our remarkable donors with the strategic vision for the school. This is a unique opportunity to serve IU McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis, work alongside a variety of constituents to maximize support for the school and to build relationships across the community to increase visibility, impact, and financial resources.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Identifies potential donors, cultivates relationships, and executes fundraising strategy for annual gifts targets. 
  • Cultivates donor relationships through regular, strategic communications and outreach efforts and updates, maintains, and analyzes donor information to inform strategies.
  • In coordination with the Assistant Dean, sets and tracks progress toward annual giving goals and reporting on a regular basis to manager, team, and/or department/school representatives. 
  • Researches, compiles, and provides metrics, facts, and general operations information about IU key departments within the school to donors. 
  • Collaborates with colleagues in departments and school and conveys donor questions/concerns.
  • Provides an excellent donor experience through customer service, active listening, inclusive language, and thoughtful and persuasive discussion while consistently upholding the integrity and mission of the school and Indiana University.
  • Creates, plans, and executes a multi-channel annual giving programs including recruitment and effective communication with volunteers.
  • Requests data lists from the Crimson System Services Center.
  • Creates solicitation and marketing materials; writes solicitations for mail, email, and video; works with outside mail house.
  • Prepares program preliminary and fiscal year reports.
  • Enters contacts in Crimson system in a timely manner.
  • Monitors group email inbox and manage emails related to the position.
  • Manages Law Firm Campaign.
  • Manages Class Agent program. 
  • Targets segment solicitations.
  • Outreaches with social media education and solicitation.
  • Collaborates with the Annual Giving and Marketing Team at the IU Foundation and the IU McKinney Office of External Relations on specialized solicitations.
  • Manages annual giving pages of website.
  • Manages crowd power campaigns such as Giving Tuesday, IU McKinney Day, IU Day, etc.
  • Manages annual giving advertisements.
  • Creates, plans and executes student philanthropy programs.
  • Takes on increasingly complex special projects, such as re-engaging lapsed donors, performing outreach to engage donors in volunteer leadership opportunities, or developing and executing targeted plans for potential donors.

General Responsibilities

  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards gifts through personal visits, phone calls, correspondence, and other campaigns and events.
  • Maintains personal contact with a range of constituent to provide information concerning gift and engagement opportunities and develop their interest and support.
  • Provides unit leadership and university partners professional fundraising assistance planning and coordinating various programs, projects and efforts that help acquire gifts and engage key stakeholders.
  • Manages and tracks activity, collaborates in the development of gift agreements and stewardship. Generates reports relative to development plans and activities with other donor relations personnel.
  • Makes recommendations for solicitation strategies to accomplish fundraising goals. Help create targeted appeals or specific strategies for departments, centers or programs.
  • Stays current on unit, university and IU Foundation activities and policies related to fundraising, mission and goals.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment.
