Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
he Office of Scholarships and Student Aid works to ensure that qualified students have the opportunity to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill regardless of their ability to pay. The office serves students at all levels, including graduate and professional school students and coordinates all student financial support for the campus. The office assists in the recruitment, retention and success of students while maximizing available funds, exercising good stewardship of those funds, and performing related research, analysis and program evaluation in support of long-range enrollment and campus goals. In addition, the office provides academic and co-circular support services for scholarships, provides financial literacy and educational tools, and partners with faculty and other student success areas across campus to provide excellent service to low- and middle-income students and other scholarship recipients. The work of the office is public in nature and closely scrutinized by students and their families, lawmakers, faculty and staff at the University, and by the media (local, regional, and national).
Position Summary
The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid (OSSA) seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and organized individual for the position of Assistant Director of Communications. The Assistant Director of Communications will work with the Senior Associate Director of Communications to oversee all communications issued by the office, including collecting and publishing student stories for use with the media and donors, writing letters and creating other materials for stewardship and donor solicitation, editing informational brochures, updating the OSSA website and appropriate social media, creating and editing the annual aid profile, and reviewing and editing communications sent to students. The Assistant Director will also work closely with the Senior Assistant Director for Counseling and Outreach in publicizing and promoting OSSA and its financial aid programs. In addition, the Assistant Director will act as the communications program coordinator for communications to support financial aid program engagement including for work-study programming and various scholarships. As program coordinator this will include creating photographs and videos, managing social media postings, managing, and maintaining web content, and providing creative support in the development of presentation materials.
This position includes flexibility for a hybrid work schedule.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills. Experience delivering
high-quality service in a high volume, fast-paced office environment and interpreting and explaining program policy and procedures, preferably in the field of financial aid or student services at a college or university setting. Must be able to manage multiple, ongoing priorities; work independently as well as in a team environment and in a professional manner.

* Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, WordPress, Camtasia, Slate
* Experience in developing dynamic and engaging presentations
* Experience with social media platforms and best practices
