Primary Purpose of Department
The University Communications department is responsible for developing and executing communication strategies, messaging, and engagement efforts that are aligned with the University’s mission and vision. Within the division, departments such as reputation management, internal and external communications, academic and research communications, strategic content or editorial services, marketing, and visual media communications, work together to ensure effective communication and engagement with internal and external audiences through traditional and emerging communication channels.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director is a member of a team providing strategic communications support to the College of Science and the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences. The team works collaboratively to meet the combined needs of the dean and leadership teams leading the colleges.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Assistant Director is accountable for creating a variety of content to support communication and marketing efforts including website copy, brochures, media releases and social media content. The role will assist with the execution of day-to-day communication activities including the development and execution of effective communications strategies for segmented audiences.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or closely related field with 2-4 years experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Master’s degree with one to two years experience in a marketing or communications position is preferred, with preference given to academic or marketing organization experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this role.
  • Experience in website and social media management.
  • Strong writing skills, with ability to produce pieces on deadline.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
