The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for an Assistant Director, career Services to serve as a member of School of Public Health Office of Student Affairs’ administrative support team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Career Services, under general direction, provides oversight and support for the Career Services Program. We are looking for someone who would provide career advising to graduate students during all stages of career exploration and decision making. This includes providing regular programming, individual advising, reporting and outreach to drive the Career Services program and help our students attain successful careers.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six years of related experience.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, including effectively delivering presentations and providing individual and group career counseling.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others and in teams
  • Ability to assist in the management of a program budget.
  • Working knowledge of computers; business level knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience: 

  • Seven or more years in planning and implementation of career services programs and events.
  • Experience working with graduate students and alumni.
  • Experience in a higher education setting with knowledge of policies and procedures is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates career services programs: This includes coaching for students and alumni related to: exploring career options; crafting job search marketing materials; networking and interviewing; evaluating offers and negotiating salary; and transitioning from graduate school to professional or academic positions.
  • Provides advising and programming specifically for career counseling, career exploration, resume review, interview preparation, and other career development support.
  • Develops and coordinates career related educational programs for classes, student organizations, groups of prospective students, new student orientations, and others as appropriate. This may include etiquette dinner(s) and custom workshops and presentations.
  • Plans and implements career fairs and other career-related forums.
  • Oversees and coordinates on-campus career recruiting efforts.
  • Prepares monthly and annual reports on student career development data.
  • Maintains and is able to report on current knowledge base of labor market trends, occupational information, and the local, State, and National employer base.
  • Employer development:
  • Leads the initiative to create an employer development plan for SPH. This includes building relationships with local employers to obtain new potential employer contacts and job opportunities.
  • Service: Represents the department, division, or University on various committees.
  • Participates in developing departmental strategic plans based on Career Services Program, Office of Student Affairs, and SPH goals.
  • Supervises, mentors, and evaluates office staff and/or student assistants.
