Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Student Affairs provides essential programs and services that encourage and support academic success and personal growth for more than 29,500 students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs at the University. These programs and services challenge and enable students to become compassionate and responsible citizens and leaders on the campus and in local and global communities through an inclusive, culturally diverse and growth-centered campus environment. Student Affairs includes 17 departments, more than 325 full- and part-time professionals, and over 800 student workers who work together daily with campus administrators, faculty, and students to foster an environment of student learning and success.
Position Summary
This Assistant Director position is a part of the Student Affairs OVC Business Hub located in the Student Affairs Finance POD and will function as a hybrid position which will include a hybrid schedule for on campus work and remote work. This schedule is subject to change depending on business needs.
The Assistant Director of Business Services position serves as the primary resource to the Business, HR and Finance staff of the OVC Hub as well as the support staff of the 13 departments serviced in the OVC Business Hub including Dean of Students, Career Services, Office of Student Conduct, Accessibility Resources and Services, LBGTQ, Campus Y, Student Affairs Information Technology, Student Affairs Development, Student Affairs VC Office, Wellness, Off Campus Student Life, Gender Violence Prevention Services, and Student Affairs Finance and HR. The Assistant Director is responsible for understanding departmental strategic budgets and budget definitions of all source types and nuances in the Hub including State Funds, F&A funds, Grant funds, Student Fees and their origin, Trust, Gift, Endowment, Foundation and Administrative Fee funding. This position monitors, consults, and provides technical assistance in the preparation and execution of budgets that can utilize multiple and diverse funding sources. This position identifies potential risks or challenges generated in budget and program activities, elevates appropriate issues, and recommends solution to the management team. This position provides leadership, oversight, and support in the execution of the budgets for the departments served by the Business Hub. This position is responsible for budget transfers; journals, including billing, correcting and other journal entries; and reconciliation and management of a wide variety of funding source types. The position ensures that budgets and expenditures are compliant with applicable federal, state and University budget rules, legislative intent, and federal and state laws. This position reports to the Director of Business Services of the OVC Business hub and serves as a part of the OVC Hub management team and Student Affairs Business and Financial Services leadership team. This position is required to facilitate regular meetings with department directors served by the OVC Business Hub (or their designees) and engage in collaborative strategic planning sessions to assess revenue and expenditure budget needs.
This position directly supervises the Accounting Technician/Advanced and reports to the director of the OVC Business Hub.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, accounting, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of a personal computer, word processing, and Advanced Excel.
* Demonstrated technical knowledge on a variety of budget, finance, and human resource functions, will review all systems and processes to provide suggestions for streamlining procedures and tasks in the OVC Business Services Hub.
* Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated experience with business workflow and best practices based on regulations, policies, and procedures.
* Demonstrated experience with financial analysis and long-range planning.
* Demonstrated experience with presenting information in small and large group settings.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration.
* Experience in a University or college environment.
* Previous demonstrated experience with forecasting, trend analysis and financial analysis.
* Previous experience with all fund sources (state, gift, trust, F&A, grant, endowment) and analysis.
* Previous experience in a University setting with supervisory responsibility.
* Previous demonstrated experience with review and approval of Finance and HR actions.
* Minimum of five (5) years’ demonstrated experience in Accounting, Finance and Business Administration.
