The ideal candidate must have a consistent record of excellence as a educator, conductor, supervisor and student recruiter at both the secondary and university levels. They will demonstrate experience with collegiate marching and concert bands; designing marching band drills and/or music arranging. The candidate will be characterized by strong interpersonal skills, administrative abilities, a collaborative nature, and a demonstrated commitment to a collegial and mutually supportive environment for our students and colleagues alike.

 

The duties will include, but not limited to:

·         Assist Associate Director of Bands with all aspects of the "Frost Band of the Hour" (FBOTH) Marching Band.

·         Direct all aspects of the FBOTH Pep Band for UM Volleyball and Basketball as well as community outreach/recruiting activities.

·         Assist the Director of Bands and Associate Director of Bands in all administrative, organizational, and aspirational aspects of Frost Bands Program.

·         Interface and coordinating with UM Athletics, Alumni and Administration

·         Promote and actively recruiting for the School of Music through on and off campus activities

·         Teach in other areas based on the candidate’s expertise and needs of the Frost School of Music (e.g. conducting, marching band techniques, drill design and arranging, etc.)

·         Recruit, organize and conduct University Band (Spring only)

·         Guest conducting opportunities with the Frost Symphonic Winds and Frost Wind Ensemble will be afforded.

 

Qualifications:

·         Master's degree required. Doctorate preferred.

·         Experience as a secondary and collegiate ensemble leader

·         Experienced music educator who maintains an active creative, research, and service agenda at the local, state/regional levels.

The Frost Bands program consists of the following staff: Director of Bands, Associate Director of Bands, Assistant Director of Bands, Assistant Direct of Programs, Graduate Teaching Assistants and Undergraduate Student workers.  The Ensembles consist of: Frost Band of the Hour, Pep Bands for UM Basketball and Volleyball, Frost Wind Ensemble, Frost Symphonic Winds, and University Band.  The Band Faculty teach additional courses in graduate and undergraduate conducting, wind literature, marching band methods and techniques, student leadership, marching band arranging and drill design.
