Department Summary
The Recreational Sports Department at UNT strives to provide the kind of recreational experiences that not only support the wellness of the UNT community but inspire it. The activities are provided through intramural sports, informal recreation, group exercise, sport clubs, esports, fitness, faculty/staff fitness, special events, outdoor pursuits and aquatics.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for the planning, conducting, managing, staffing and equipping of a comprehensice aquatics program within Recreational Sports.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: A successful candidate will have some experience in collegiate aquatics programming, management and experience supervising student staff. 
* Master’s degree in Recreation, Sports Administration, or related field strongly preferred.
 * Experience with risk management, pool chemistry, state health code guidelines, and fiscal management preferred. 
* Red Cross Lifeguard instructor or instructor trainer preferred or equivalent (if equivalent, ability to bridge training to American Red Cross upon hire), Red Cross Water Safety instructor preferred. 
* 3+ years of experience in managing a comprehensive aquatics program.

Monday – Friday 8-5 with some weekends and evenings

Job Duties


o
Programming – Offer a variety of aquatics programs, including learn to swim, private swim lessons, certification courses and special programs. Contribute to the marketing materials, strategies and outreach efforts.
o
Facility Management – Manage the day-to-day operations and maintenance in the aquatics center. This also includes managing the equipment and operations in the pump rooms. Ensure chemicals in each body of water are constantly monitored and comply with local, state and federal guidelines for pool operation. Ensure the appropriate space is reserved for activities with the facility staff.
o
Risk Management – Ensure that all space and equipment used by the aquatics program is in safe, operating condition and work with the appropriate maintenance staff, facility managers or service contractors to ensure the necessary fixes or repairs are made. All guards and instructors will possess and maintain appropriate America Red Cross certifications and comply to local, state and federal regulations pertaining to pool operations. Aquatics management must possess and maintain minimum required aquatics certifications. All staff will be trained on emergency response and how to diffuse difficult situation.

Fiscal Management – Develop, manage and monitor the aquatics program budget including, program registration, private lesson sales, student wages and equipment purchases.

Staff Administration – Manage the hiring, training and staffing for the aquatics program, including the Graduate Assistant, lifeguards, head lifeguards and swim instructors. Follow university procedures for hiring part time staff. Know and follow the student employment policy.

Communication – Communicates in a clear and concise manner that helps the listener avoid confusion. Interacts with others in a way that builds relationships. Responses to verbal and written responses are provided in a prompt and timely manner.
