Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master’s degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities. |
Position Summary | Reporting to the Director of Advancement Services, the Assistant Director of Advancement Services (ADAS) is an essential member of the School of Nursing’s (SON) Advancement team focusing on donor prospecting, donor relations and reporting, gift services and tracking, campaign special projects, building naming opportunities and donor events.The ADAS works independently to design, plan and execute SON community, donor and alumni events, providing an outstanding attendee experience by designing, achieving and following up on events of the highest quality and caliber within timeline and budgetary constraints, and with excellent donor stewardship in mind. The ADAS will work with the DAS to propose new events and activities as strategically appropriate throughout the SON building campaign (ending FY28) and the new CarolinaNext University-wide capital campaign.The ADAS will work closely with the DAS to design and implement a comprehensive donor recognition and stewardship program that acknowledges all donor and gift types with the highest attention to detail and individual attention. The ADAS will direct sports and SON special guest hospitality, create processes for managing our building campaign naming projects and other campaign special projects, and update and lead giving society recognition, providing the utmost in donor care and attention. The ADAS will coordinate prospect management and research for the Advancement Office, working closely with the Team’s gift officers to ensure donors are moving through the pipeline and new prospects are identified and scheduled for cultivation. They will likewise ensure that the university-side constituency management system is updated and current with all alumni communications, events and donor stewardship activity. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with UNC System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience.The Assistant Director of Advancement Services will plan and facilitate multiple advancement activities and events. Ability to evaluate and lead workflow, staffing resources and budgets essential. Ability to train and supervise student workers, vendors and contract workers as needed. Team-oriented and ability to work collaboratively with the Advancement Team to plan and implement a donor relations plan.Excellent oral and written communication skills.High level of creativity, initiative, and motivation. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Leading candidates will have experience in donor relations, events, and project management, preferably in a higher education setting with nursing school experience. |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements | Must be able to work evenings and weekends. Must be physically able to move equipment, boxes, and materials weighing approximately 25 lbs with or without accommodation. |
