The Learning Centers support and enrich student learning through free services for students seeking to enhance their academic careers. Housed in the Office of the Provost at Rutgers-New Brunswick, the Learning Centers also partner with faculty and staff who are interested in learning new instructional strategies or developing additional methods of support for their students.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director of Administration for the Learning Centers (LC). This position reports to the Senior Director and supports all directors, ensuring that the daily activities are commensurate with the Learning Centers’ mission. While most positions are specific to programs and locations, the Assistant Director of Administration works jointly with the Senior Director to coordinate and standardize operations and administration across campuses.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Oversees the daily operation of one of the four centers, supervises the administrative team, and develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures related to operations, student employment, and center management for all Learning Centers.
• Responsible for outreach programs, office administration, space and facilities scheduling and maintenance, and managing academic support activities within the assigned center.
• Hires, supervises, appraises, and resolves conflicts and issues among staff, and if necessary, terminates student and part-time staff as well as full-time administrative staff. • Manages the day-to-day budget, conducts budget reports, and assists the Senior Director in development of and decisions regarding the overall LC budget.
• Oversees centralized purchasing and payroll approval of hourly center staff.
• Maintains records, develops documentation, and how-to guides for administrative tasks as well as explains routine and non-routine information when necessary for the students, faculty, staff, and community.
• Supports the Senior Director in development and management of the data system, online platforms, and all systems.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Master’s degree
• A minimum of three (3) years of administrative experience, preferably in an academic setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficient with Microsoft Office products, electronic communication methods, and internet browsers.
• Ability to multitask, complete independent and self-directed work, and meet deadlines effectively.
• Superior communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree and/or experience in higher education.
• Experience independently managing an educational center or program.
• Ability to learn and use new technologies quickly and efficiently.
• Familiarity with Rutgers payroll, personnel management, financial, and administrative systems.
• Prior staff training experience.

Equipment Utilized

• Microsoft Office products on a regular basis.
• Learning Centers’ data management system and all technologies used within the Learning Centers.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• This position requires flexibility and the ability to work some evenings and weekends.
• This position requires travel between campuses on a regular basis.
