Job Title: Assistant Director of Academic Support

Summary of Position:    The Assistant Director of Academic Support oversees The Academic support operations of CSS, including scheduling, management, delivery, and procedural assessment of classes and academic coaching initiatives. The Assistant Director will lead academic coaching initiatives at IWU, providing individualized student support and training in educational success strategies to the broader University. In addition, this position develops and implements a campus-wide marketing plan to inform students, faculty, and administrators at the University about student support services and best practices in the field. This position also teaches sections of the Foundations Seminar course to conditionally admitted, probation, or affinity groups of students and meets as an academic guide with students to monitor progress. The Assistant Director will assist in developing and implementing preventative and responsive programs to promote student success for IWU students.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead academic support initiatives for first-year students through the Foundations and Probation classes
  • Teach sections of the Foundation Seminar and support the Foundations Program led by the Director of Academic Support
  • Meet individually with students who are academically at risk to provide academic coaching Lead one-on-one academic coaching sessions for IWU Marion students 
  • Collaborate with faculty and Student Development Staff on academic support seminars for student success
  • Lead communication and marketing strategy for promoting academic support to faculty, students, and other college personnel. (campaigns promoting the center, educational support strategies, and policies and procedures that are student-success oriented)
  • Collaborate with other team members on tutor training, professional development, academic skills, and support of the staff employed by The Learning Center 
  • Research and maintain best practices for academic success intervention strategies, collect and evaluate data, draw conclusions, and pitch effective strategies for intervention and improvement. In collaboration with the Director – Create responsive and preventative programming to address academic concerns 
  • Some evenings are required for presentations and Academic Support Groups in the Learning Center, IWU's Learning Center (mobile office)

Education

  • Master's required

Experience

  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience required providing student success services, such as advising academically underprepared populations, tutoring and alternative learning support programs, supplemental education, study skills development, academic advising, and/or assessment of student retention

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and listening skills
  • Strong Presentation Skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment; establish and maintain a solid cooperative working relationship with students, staff, and faculty
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ability to learn Tutoring Software, and Brightspace
  • Dependable; punctual
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to work unsupervised; able to use initiative and resourcefulness at work and implement improvements
  • Able to be creative in designing a process to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to prioritize, be responsive, innovative, results-oriented, and student-centered in helping students fulfill their academic program requirements and meet campus goals.
  • Must understand the principles of confidentiality
