Job Summary
This position plans, implements and manages the workforce development operations of the North Texas Semiconductor Institute (NTxSI) located at the University of Texas at Dallas campus. The Assistant Director of NTxSI will be responsible for convening and organizing stakeholders throughout the workforce development ecosystem including representatives from industry, 4-year universities, community colleges, state agencies, philanthropic organizations, and the independent school districts and for outreach activities to prospective students. The Assistant Director of NTxSI will also oversee administration and operations of the Institute, including but not limited to: accounting and financial operations, annual budgeting, strategic planning, administration of human resources, facilities and equipment planning and management as they relate to the Institute’s research enterprise, assist with proposal definition, development, and grant administration. The assistant director will coordinate the activities of the institute with those of the School of Engineering and Computer Science, the Office of Research, the Office of Finance and Budget and the Office of Administration as required. The position will be supervising workforce development and administrative support staff.
Works with office of Sponsored Projects to ensure timely processing of proposals, awards and subcontracts. Works with appropriate administration groups to ensure strong internal controls are implemented and executed. Assists institute’s director and staff on proposal definition, development, and review. Coordinate institute special events. Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Minimum Education and Experience
-Bachelor’s degree in related field. 
-Three plus years relevant professional experience. 
-Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Ph.D., preferred but not required.
  • Experience in solid state physics, semiconductors, or related area.
  • 5 years, preferred, progressively responsible experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • Knowledge with semiconductor-manufacturing related new project technical definition, development, and execution.
  • Knowledge in developing student outreach programs and convening state-wide workforce development ecosystems.
  • Knowledge in the full cycle of pre- and post-award administration including research grant program and project administration.
  • Familiarity with UT Dallas business process and administrative systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Define, develop, promote, and coordinate workforce development efforts.
  • Assist director with development of policies, procedures, and institute strategy.
  • Assist NTxSI director, personnel and collaborators with proposal development, preparation, submission, and grant administration including site visits and workshops.
  • Foster and maintain effective working relations with the North Texas workforce development ecosystem, internal UTD departments and external contacts including funding agencies and other stakeholders. Provide guidance to departments, employees, and students on policies and procedures.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
