Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:
 

The Assistant Director of New Student Orientation works directly with the Director of New Student Orientation to assist in overseeing all new student orientation programming and student engagement programming. The Assistant Director of New Student Orientation assists the Director of New Student Orientation by: providing support for Summer Orientation, Spring Orientation, and Welcome Week; overseeing the Fall 15 and other intentional first-year programming efforts; mentor and train the 200+ Tower Team orientation leaders; provide administrative and event support for all new student orientation programs; provide support on special projects within the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement.

  • Provide support on all New Student Orientation Programming: Spring Orientation,
  • Summer Orientation, Welcome Week
  • Oversee the Orientation Checklist on BruinLink
  • Oversee the creating and delivering the orientation communication plan to all new students and parents
  • Oversee key administrative tasks such as: responding to emails responding to phone
    calls, submitting budget requests, updating orientation website.
  • Take lead on orientation social events throughout the orientation process
  • Supervise/Mentor New Student Orientation student staff - specifically the 12 Orientation
  • Council Leaders and 200+ orientation leaders.
  • Assist in the creating, editing, and printing various orientation marketing materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to plan full term or year of events/activities in advance
  • Interpersonal skills enabling effective conflict-management, and supervision
  • Skill in maintaining and managing records/data
  • Self-starter, responsible work habits, personal maturity
  • Desire and ability to work in a highly collaborative team setting
  • Attention to details
  • Computer proficiency, including Word and Excel
  • Creativity, imagination, ability to seek original effective solutions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as well as accompany students on extended trips
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
   
Required Education Bachelor's Degree Required Master's Degree Preferred
  
Required Experience 1-3 years required 4-6 years preferred Type of Field of Experience: Student Life, Orientation, Event Planning, On-Boarding/Training, Leadership Development
  
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The employee’s vision must be adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc. The position requires good manual dexterity. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing as necessary.
