Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s department of Medical Education is seeking to hire an Assistant Director, Medical Education Standardized Simulation. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions


These are the job duties required of the position.


Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Maintains an understanding of educational principles, regulations and best practices and demonstrates these during simulation activities including training, assessments and examinations.
  • Works with faculty to plan and design standardized patient-based simulations, guided by knowledge of best practices in simulation and education and under the supervisor of the Director, Clinical Skills and Simulation.
  • Assists Director in development of policies and procedures related to standardized patient-based simulation at the College of Medicine Simulation Lab (COMSIM).
  • Conducts and oversees student post-simulation debriefing and simulation-based teaching, as needed.
  • Develops and delivers faculty education on best practices in simulation-based education and provides faculty with feedback execution of these practices.
  • Implements standardized patient-based simulation, ensuring implementation of best practices in simulation, education and of policies and procedures.
  • Assigns tasks to Medical Education Standardized Patient Educators and supervises them in all day-to-day work, providing corrective feedback as needed.
  • Ensures integration of educational best practices into simulation and advocates for use of simulation in healthcare education.
  • Collects facility and equipment utilization data and particpant evaluation data.
  • Develops and implements quality assurance/improvement activities within the Standardized Patient unit and assists with QA/QI for the entire simulation center.
  • Oversees recruitment and screening of standardized patients; conducts orientation and delivers yearly performance feedback.
  • Maintains proficiency with specailized range of AV systems and IT equipment (i.e. Learning Space).
  • Configures, operates and troubleshoots A/IT equipment, as needed.
  • Safeguards privacy and security of simulation center data and technology assets.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of simulation terminology, procedures, and best practices.
  • Communicates needs for personnel, space and equipment for simulations to the Assistant Director, Medical Education Simulation Operations.
  • Maintains knowledge of and compliance with institution and industry policies, standards/best practices and regulations, particularly SSIH accreditation standards.
  • Coordinates with the Assistant Director, Medical Education Simulation Operations in maintaining SSIH accreditation of COMSIM.
  • Supervises full-time and part-time personnel within the standardized patient simulation unit.
  • Coordinates with the Assistant Director, Medical Education Simulation Operations in stock control, ensuring adequate security and levels of consumables and equipment are maintained.
  • Maintains documents and records in support of simulation center operations.
  • Ensures that center policies and procedures are followed by all employees and users.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Skills and Simulation.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
  • Related duties as required.
