Position Overview

The University of Kansas invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Jayhawk Finances within the Financial Aid & Scholarships office. This dynamic role involves coordinating and administering comprehensive financial literacy and financial wellness services for KU students. The Assistant Director will serve as a content expert, developing and marketing financial literacy programs, providing personalized coaching, delivering educational workshops, and facilitating staff training on financial wellness topics. This position will be cross-trained in both financial aid and financial literacy/wellness to ensure a holistic counseling experience for students.

Job Description

70%: Financial Education & Service Delivery

  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and assess financial wellness workshops, classes, coaching sessions, online materials, events, and other financial wellness services or resources as they are identified.
  • Develop, train, and execute a peer financial coaching program, supervising 5-10 student peer financial coaches that will deliver one-on-one coaching, presentations, outreach, and programming.
  • Conduct one-on-one financial coaching appointments covering various financial literacy topics and offering escalation support for complex student financial issues.
  • Monitor and address popular financial topics affecting diverse student populations, developing relevant educational programming and materials.
  • Provide workshops and presentations upon request from campus partners.
30%: Projects, Assessment, & Collaboration
  • Support Jayhawk Rising initiatives by developing outreach to vulnerable populations, collaborating with campus stakeholders to reduce loan debt and time to degree.
  • Collaborate with UNIV 101 and other campus support services to develop a financial wellness curriculum.
  • Provide assessment and reporting on all financial wellness programs.
  • Support service delivery projects for the financial aid office, including calling projects, semester start-up services, and training.

Position Requirements

  • This position will be on-site for the duration of training. At the conclusion of training, this position will primarily work on-site, but a limited hybrid work schedule may be considered upon approval of supervisor.
  • The successful candidate is expected to assist with virtual and in-person programming. Occasional travel may be required for off-site events.
  • Upon hire, work towards obtaining and maintaining a financial counseling or financial planning certification within one year of start date. Professional development funding will be provided for this requirement.

  • Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree with three years of related experience in student affairs, teaching, curriculum and instruction, counseling, advising, financial education/financial coaching, or another relevant field.
  • Experience in public speaking an creating engaging presentation materials.
  • Clear and accurate communication skills for diverse audiences as demonstrated by application materials and interview process.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills for working with diverse stakeholders as demonstrated by application materials.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Curriculum & Instruction, or another relevant area.
  • Experience in online course development or online module design, especially within a learning management system such as Canvas, Blackboard, etc.
  • Experience in personal financial planning or providing financial literacy education.
  • Experience in training and evaluating students and professional staff.
  • Financial planning certification (e.g., Accredited Financial Counselor, Certified Financial Planner, etc.).
