Assistant Director
Office of Sustainability
Location:  New Orleans, LA
Summary

The Assistant Director of the Office of Sustainability assists the Director of the Office of Sustainability with creation and implementation of university environmental sustainability initiatives for Tulane students, staff and faculty.  This position creates and implements outreach programs to promote the university's sustainability efforts and goals for reducing its carbon footprint. The Assistant Director assists with LEED documentation for capital projects pursuing USGBC LEED certification and preparing the annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions inventory and other sustainability reporting requirements. Works to enhance environmental sustainability and performance of Tulane buildings and building systems, including reducing energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste, in accordance with best practices in green building design, construction, and operation.  Assists the Director with coordinating environmental outreach efforts with colleagues in the division of Facilities Management and Campus Development, faculty members, staff, deans, department heads, executive administration, students and alumni.  Stays current on trends in sustainability, energy programs as well as federal law mandates.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, etc.).

  • Ability to effectively lead, manage and influence others to promote Sustainability at the university.
  • Good communication and writing skills.


  • Strong public speaking and presentations skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well and build relationships.

  • Ability to perform duties at other than normal working hours and days as required by projects or tasks.

  • Ability to utilize design software programs, including AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite, and to learn new software programs.

  • Ability to be self-motivated and take initiative to resolve problems.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Architecture, or Landscape Architecture and two years' directly related experience. 

OR


  • Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Architecture, or Landscape Architecture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in architecture, environmental studies or related field.

  • Current LEED accreditation (such as LEED Green Associate) or ability to achieve within first 90 days of employment

  • Experience working in a university or institutional setting and/or in an academic environment with students.

This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 25.
