What We Want

The Assistant Director, Graduate Studies will assist the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and leadership team in all aspects of graduate program operations and will maintain responsibility for administrative and operational processes related to graduate education within the College of Arts and Sciences. This position will include a significant number of responsibilities that must be performed on-site, including coordinating and leading administrative, operational, curricular, and business process matters. What You Need to Know

Salary Range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.

Work Schedule: Occasionally may be required to work outside of normal business hours and on weekends.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Six years of experience in university administration

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

  • Ability to communicate clearly (oral and written) and effectively to ensure understanding

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience with graduate programs

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Assessment: Assists in planning, directing, and coordinating operational and procedural matters to meet the College of Arts and Sciences graduate program’s goals and objectives.  Assists with the development of strategic plans for graduate program recruiting, admissions, and retention. Assists with graduate program assessment and implementation. Provides leadership for graduate studies unit along with, and in the absence of the Associate Dean. Monitors compliance with university and college, state, and federal standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Project Management:  Oversees, designs, and controls the processes for supporting graduate students and the development and oversight of administrative and operational processes and procedures. Responsible for drafting reports, conducting analysis and surveys, and gathering metrics. Manages course and curriculum changes. Provides supervision and guidance to administrative coordinator II position. Handles special projects as assigned by the Associate Dean.

  • Business Processes and Budgeting: Assists in strategic planning and allocation of graduate funding. Serve as a liaison with the college finance team to ensure timely and accurate transactions.  Oversees the awarding of graduate scholarships and fellowships in coordination with finance and administrative staff.

  • Committee Work: Oversees the coordination of regular meetings of departmental staff with responsibility for graduate affairs.  Attends meetings of the college-level Graduate Committee.

  • Other Duties:  Business travel and attendance at events and performs others duties as require.
