Job Summary
Works under the direction of the Director, Veteran and Military Affairs in the planning and execution of daily activities, enrollment outreach, representation at professional functions, and associated support projects. Provides program assistance to a staff consisting of eight full-time, and 17 part-time employees working from two campus locations (Hattiesburg and Long Beach). Coordinates with the Director in preparing long term strategies to sustain operations and achieve enrollment, retention, and sustainment goals. Responsible for ensuring enrollment, student retention and scholarship goals (as they relate to Veterans, Active Duty/National Guard/Reserve Component Service Members, and Military Family Members) are met through available resources.  Assists the Director in aligning program with the University and Student Affairs mission and goals.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Manage the Center for Military Veterans Military Student Work-Study program and provide staff assistance (eight full-time employees) pertaining to VA Certification, Veteran Support Operations, Vet Success On-Campus functions, and administrative activities relating to positive Military Student outcomes.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies utilizing various marketing, outreach, and partnership opportunities to enroll Military Students located at Active-Duty Military Installations, local High Schools and Community Colleges, and Mississippi National Guard Military units.
  • Conduct data analysis to monitor enrollment metrics, assess the effectiveness of internal/external business practices for Military Student recruiting and make recommendations to the Director. Render monthly reports as appropriate.
  • Serve as the staff lead for several Military Student support opportunities to include Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA), USM TA-Gap program, Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding, and the MS National Guard Tuition Scholarship program.
  • Provide Military Students and parents qualified expertise regarding Veterans Affairs education benefits, University academic counseling services, financial aid programs, disability services referral, and job search guidance.
  • Represent the Director at State of Mississippi Military functions, local community, and university professional/social events (i.e., guest speaking), campus affiliated academic meetings and conferences.
  • Serve as program liaison official to the State of Mississippi National Guard in all matters pertaining to successful Military Student outcomes.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree with Military Veteran status (must present a DD Form 214 proof of Honorable Service.)  At least 2-years of experience in Enrollment  Recruitment strategies with at least 1-year of experience with Military and/or Veteran related programs.

    •   Analysis experience.

    Preferred Qualifications  
    Master’s degree from an accredited Institution of Higher Learning and two years recruiting-related experience with knowledge and skills in Veterans Affairs Benefits and Marketing/Media planning.
