JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of the Student Philanthropy Center and Adelphi Fund (“Assistant Director”) engages, qualifies, solicits and stewards donors who typically give up to $1,000 annually. The successful candidate is an energetic and motivated individual who is passionate about speaking with people, working with college students, and inspiring others to give back. 

The Assistant Director will personally manage a portfolio of 125-150 donors and will develop strategies to engage new donors, renew past donors, and upgrade current donors through personal outreach.

The Assistant Director is also responsible for recruiting, training, and leading a team of approximately 15 Adelphi students in the Student Philanthropy Center (SPC). The position creates inspiring campaigns for the SPC to reach constituents through phone calls, text messages, emails, and mail. The Assistant Director manages students in utilizing software (currently Blackbaud’s Guided Fundraising) to solicit alumni, parents, and friends for donations to the University and especially to the Adelphi Fund.

As a member of the Adelphi Fund Team, the Assistant Director may assist in direct mail, digital, and crowdfunding campaigns as well as planning and executing the University’s signature fundraising events such as the annual President’s Gala, Golf Classic, and Giving Day.

Performance will be measured by the number of donors, dollars raised, pledge fulfillment rates, contact rates, and other metrics demonstrating impact and increased engagement with Adelphi.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $51,700 - $59,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REPORTS TO: Director of Adelphi Fund

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:


  • Manage a portfolio of 125-150 donors. Develop strategies to engage new donors, renew past donors, and upgrade current donors through personal outreach. Assess the likelihood of major and planned giving and engagement opportunities such as volunteering, mentoring, hosting an internship, or hosting a special event. Meet annual expectations for philanthropic income produced, personal visits, and other actions.
  • Lead the Student Philanthropy Center (SPC):

    a.    Recruit, train, script, and manage Adelphi student workers in conducting outreach and solicitation of annual donations from alumni, donors, and prospects.

    b.    Develop scripts, talking points, emails and text messages for students that align with the University's strategies of fundraising and engagement to support the University’s overarching goals.

    c.     Manage Student Philanthropy Center receipting and pledge reminders to maximize fulfillment rates.

    d.    Respond to questions and concerns from constituents that come through the Student Philanthropy Center in a timely manner.

    e.    With Advancement and External Relations staff, identify key conversations and constituents to move up the pipeline.

    f.      Develop Student Philanthropy Center performance reports and deliver them regularly.

    g.    Regularly evaluate software and technology needs to stay in line with current industry trends.

    h.    Service as a point of contact for Information Technology, Public Safety, and other campus partners for the Student Philanthropy Center.

    i.      In collaboration with Donor Relations, assist in establishing a solicitation and stewardship program for segmented constituencies such as Giving Society members, Parents and Families, first-time donors, and recent alumni.

  • In collaboration with Donor Relations, create and manage the stewardship of Adelphi Fund donors to renew and increase the support of donors in subsequent years.

  • As a member of the Adelphi Fund Team, assist in direct mail, digital, and crowdfunding campaigns as well as planning and executing the University’s signature fundraising events such as the annual President’s Gala, Golf Classic, and Giving Day.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


  • REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Strong knowledge of fundraising or marketing practices.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, writing, project and time management skills required.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing, communication and fundraising, including the implementation of multi-mediums in a fundraising environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage projects with limited direction.
  • Skill in coordinating projections from the conceptual through the implementation stages.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and as a team leader to build consensus, anticipate problems and difficult situations, and develop strategies to bring the parties involved to a mutually agreed upon solution.
  • Ability to analyze problems, situations or procedures to define objectives and implement programs.
  • Detailed knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation to compose, proofread, and edit business correspondence, reports and other written materials.
  • Solid writing experience for web and print preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends occasionally.
  • EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Minimum of three to five years of relevant work experience in fields such as nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, fundraising activities, digital marketing, social media and digital media promotions, or similar is required.
  • Experience working in multiple types of businesses and universities in fundraising, call centers and annual giving is preferable.
