We are inviting applications to be a part of our unit, serving as our Assistant Director.  The Center Assistant Director, under general direction, is responsible for developing and executive a strategic plan for business development and new client partnerships. Position Details: Position based in College Station, Houston or Dallas, TX.; however, specific location in major metropolitan Texas market TBD.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Six years of related experience in developing, conducting, and/or managing educational programs in the field of adult education, leadership training, business, and/or economic development

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with various levels of management, staff, and clients

  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines

  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database programs

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Other Requirements:

  • Extensive travel, including overnight stays and attending evening functions

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s or PhD degree

  • Six years of related experience in business development, market engagement, marketing, sales

  • Eight or more years of experience in responsible professional service business development experience

  • Experience representing a higher education institution, leadership development consultancy and/or business or HR consultancy   

Responsibilities:

  • Engagement - Schedules high-level meetings with decision-makers at target organizations.   Actively identifies and generates prospects through strategic sales strategies focusing on  customers in target markets.  Prepares the annual CED Market Engagement Plan in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Executive Education. Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate the success of the Houston Area Engagement Plan. Develops and implements sales strategies and analyzing sales data to inform or update marketing strategies. Evaluates sales program, track its success, and clearly communicates the progress of weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual initiatives to internal and external stakeholders. Tracks account metrics such as sales, COA, ROI, etc. and prepares account status reports/presentations accordingly. Performs market/competitive analysis and determines account’s fit within organization. Assists with drafting business plans, sales pitches, presentations, reference material, and other documents as required. Assists in the establishment of sales, pricing and marketing strategies. Creates, maintains, and reviews a business development budget. Collaborates with various internal teams to identify and grow account opportunities. Provides indirect supervision to student workers. Assesses the effectiveness of strategies and recommends changes and best practices.

  • Events - Designs, plans, coordinates, promotes, and administers CED representation at conferences, vendor shows, speaker series and other opportunities to promote the CED. Identifies relevant national and international conferences for CED representation.  Creates exhibit materials for CED vendor booth.  Attends conferences, presents, and staffs the CED vendor booth. Attends meetings of local Texas A&M groups (i.e. A&M Clubs, Reveille Club, etc.). Secures invitations for Mays leaders to speak at forums in the greater Houston market. Assists with tours of the City Centre Campus and/or Ft. Worth Law School Campus.

  • Networking/Marketing - Reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Executive Education and assists them with business development for the Center of Executive Development. Designs, plans, and coordinates the process to generate leads for business.  Evaluates and presents leads to the Assistant Dean.  Identifies new business opportunities and partners through the review and prospecting of markets, competitors, and products. Prospecting would include data analysis, networking (conferences) and general knowledge of the markets. Identifies and develops new and existing referral sources to develop successful referring  relationships. Is highly visible in greater Houston and/or Dallas area networking events, including those with Former Students and potential clients. Extends the Mays and CED brand into the marketplace, seeking opportunities for social media exposure, public relations and/or publicity. Works closely with CED Marketing resource (e.g. internal or external) to ensure effective strategy and execution of marketing plan to generate qualified leads. Builds relationships with leaders of targeted community groups (i.e. The Greater Houston Partnership). Establishes and maintains a network of industry contacts through participation in professional/trade associations and other professional networking organizations. Completes special projects as requested by the Assistant Dean. Performs other duties as assigned.
