Job Description:

The Assistant Director for Program Evaluation and Equity facilitates the implementation of academic programs and initiatives for the Graduate Studies Division and Office of Faculty Development, serving as a purposeful connection between curriculum and pedagogy.
Under the direction of the director of curriculum management, this individual is responsible for the operational aspects of Academic Program Review, the institution's annual process for ensuring that the curricula of Berklee’s 100+ academic programs are reviewed and updated to the highest standards in alignment with the institution's mission and strategic goals. The assistant director provides direct support to divisional deans, department chairs, program directors, and heads of institutes who are undergoing Academic Program Review at any given time, including document management, scheduling, and faculty compensation. The assistant director serves as a direct link with the Faculty Development team to provide purposeful, need-specific pedagogical support for those undergoing Academic Program Review.
In collaboration with the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, the assistant director also conducts and analyzes any additional research needed by academic leaders for their Academic Program Review, including but not limited to focus groups and surveys. The assistant director provides administrative and scheduling oversight for any meetings related to Academic Program Review, including organizing the process of proposing and confirming external evaluators for each program under review in a given year.
The assistant director for program evaluation and equity works closely with the director of curriculum management to facilitate the implementation of action plans arising from Academic Program Review, including coordinating curriculum change processes for both graduate and undergraduate programs, as well as with general curriculum maintenance, particularly with updating berklee.edu to ensure curriculum presentation consistency across platforms. The assistant director provides administrative oversight for the College-wide Curriculum Committee, Graduate Studies Committee, and the New Program Operations Committee, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and assistance in validating, editing, researching, and drafting proposals.
In collaboration with the Faculty Development team, the assistant director connects curriculum and pedagogy through key points of articulation such as the standing Inclusive Teaching subcommittee of the College Curriculum Committee, ETUDE Faculty Scholars programming, and the Exemplary Faculty Award professional development series, assisting with scheduling and logistics and maintaining the initiatives’ presence on berklee.edu. The assistant director contributes to the development and maintenance of new and existing academic initiatives. The assistant director assists in the review of applications for faculty grants, funding, and residencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Academic Program Review: Oversees the operational aspects of Academic Program Review, the institution's annual process for ensuring that Berklee's curriculum is reviewed and updated to the highest standards in alignment with the institution's mission and strategic goals.
  • Curriculum Management: Provides direct support to the director of curriculum management in regards to curriculum maintenance and academic program change processes. Conducts research, validates, drafts, and edits language for academic proposals. Maintains the major grids.
  • Writing, Editing, and Research: Manages all communications for Academic Program Review; provides research analysis; co-facilitates and writes summary reports of focus groups.
  • Committee Work: Provides administrative oversight for the College-wide Curriculum Committee, Graduate Studies Committee, New Program Operations Committee, and subcommittees.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Fosters and maintains a workplace climate that is supportive of all employees regardless of their identity, respectful of difference, and genuinely open to multiple perspectives.
  • Web Content Management and Communications: Updates all internal and external department web pages. Assists with departmental communications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in related field preferred.
  • 5 years of administrative, office, and/or student advising experience in higher education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Relevant experience in academic operations.
  • Full awareness of and commitment to the college’s diversity initiatives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives, and experiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with necessary discretion to work with confidential information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High-level proficiency with Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Content Management Systems (Drupal preferred), and MailChimp. Knowledge of Datatel Colleague, Marketo, and Salesforce platforms is helpful.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises work-study student employees as needed.
