Job Summary
Responsible for the management of the utility and building maintenance operations and programs (Plumbing, HVAC/Utilities, and Electrical). Responsibility for the management of Facilities operations in the absence of the Director for Facilities Services & Operations .
Minimum Education and Experience
-Bachelor’s degree in related field. 
-Three plus years relevant professional experience. 
-Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Trade certification as a journeyman, master, or specialist in a field used by the UTD Facilities Management organization
  • Five (5) years’ experience related to university or institutional facilities
  • Professional certification as a Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or Facility Management Professional (FMP)
  • Graduate of APPA’s Institute for Facilities Management
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides leadership and direction to the Building Maintenance & Operations trade shops of Facilities Management.
  • Management of Facilities operations in the absence of the Director for Facilities Services & Operations;
  • Oversees the operations and staff of multiple FM trade shops, including Plumbing, HVAC/Utilities, and Electrical;
  • Responsible for building commissioning, monitoring and periodic recommissioning, and coordinating operations of the Central Energy Plant;
  • Directs personnel management for those under his/her purview, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions;
  • Ensures the quality of customer service and responsiveness of maintenance and operation support to University community;
  • Administers several contracted university services, including but not limited to chiller maintenance, boiler maintenance, energy management system support, and HVAC maintenance;
  • Oversees workplace safety at all locations and liaises with Institutional Risk & Safety and end users toward that goal;
  • Participates in the budget planning process, including staffing, budget requirements, identifying potential cost increases, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director for Facilities Services & Operations.

Work Notice: Work will be performed on site and in-person.

Other Factors: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Track record of professional success in coordinating projects with executive management, academic/professional staff, community groups, peers, subordinates, external regulators, contractors, engineers, and architects.

Internal Control Responsibility: Responsible for the design and execution of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable, and applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures are complied with.
Physical Considerations: Ability to sit at desk or in meetings, stand, climb, and walk. Must have the physical ability to conduct on-site inspections of all facilities at The University of Texas at Dallas, including construction and maintenance projects.
